Hello

I'm new to the site and I am slowly restoring my 1989 535i BMW. I don't know anything about cars or BMW's but I have a passion and respect for the old school BMW's especially the 5 series. So I don't perform the work myself. I'm in an on-going learning process with my car. I'm hoping that by coming to this site I can learn a lot about my car because I would like to work on it myself.

Like I said before, all summer I have restoring my 535i. I take it to a place called Phaedrus in San Francisco and they do the work. It's almost done but there is little more to finish.

I wanted to know some miscellaneous things before I ask them.

First, my ac is "all over the place." When the passenger desires to adjust the degrees to either hot or cold it doesn't adjust. The driver's dual control overrides the passenger's control. So if the passenger wants the degrees to be hot but the driver wants it cold, it would be cold in both zones. The second issue with my ac is that the backseat air ducts (besides the air ducts at the feet) blow cold air always. Even if the driver has it hot. This would be appreciated if this can be answered. I also have more questions...

What does the knob between the two air ducts in the do? Does it adjust the temperature?

When I hit 55 mph can I hit the s button right by the transmission to make the car go faster?

Can I install a alpine navigation system (flip screen) without having any issues?

Is there a way that the headrest control can be fix? If so, how can I fix it?

I have a 12 inch sub in my car and there is rattling noise in the backseat? Is there any way I can get rid of that annoying noise?

Everytime I drive in heat the car starts and when I park the car is left smoking. The meter isn't in the red at all. It's normal. What's the issue?

I have more questions. I will post them later

Thanks.

welcome, i have a little insight for a few of your problems. the headrest problem is probably caused from corosion on the metal pieces in side the switch. its pretty easy to remove, although once you get it apart, you need to make sure and remember where all the little piece fit in. get some fine grit sand paper and sand down all the parts where a connection is made. this should take care of the problem, if not, i dunno.

for the rattling noise yer just gonna have to figure out where its coming from. if it's under the seat, you can remove it by just pulling hard on one of the corners. i also have a rattle from my sub and it comes from the piece just behind rear seat. some dynamat should take care of it. to get it out, remove the bottom piece of the seat, and then there should be four plastic nuts that need to be unscrewed. once these are off, the back piece should pretty much come right off. then the piece thats rattling pulls out, with a good bit of effort.

the smoking when you stop may be caused by oil that has been spilled around the engine, or possibly a leaky headgasket

Another quick and easy question...

My hazard switch is flipped upside down. How do I remove it and flip it back to the right position?

Thanks

I will post pics of my BMW later...
