View Full Version : New Tire and Rim Selection

Well, after some questions and looking around I have finally made my selection for my new rims and tires.

I'm going to get the Mille Miglia Impera's (17x8)

Another Z3 member has these rims (cannot recall who, but it's a newbie) and they looked pretty good on his ride:buttrock

Still going with the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position in 235/40's all around. Would be nice to go with 245's, but it has been pointed out that there may be issues with the front rubbing...so, best to play it safe.

The real problem has been looking at DR's for my stock 16" rims. I was originally going to go with the BFG g-force T/A DR's, but unfortunately they do not make them in 16"s:mad:

BFG has the Comp T/A DR's in 16's, however, it's 255/50......stock rims are 7" wide......so I don't think they'll fit.

Since I can't get the BFG's, I'm back to the Nitto NT-555R Extreme DR's as they come in 225/50 16

They are DOT approved, DR's, and provide impressive control and handling (according to my C5 bretheran), and last about 15k miles of normal street-driving use...... so maybe I'll get a third of that at the drag strip if I'm lucky:evil2 :buttrock

Now........about the front skinnies for the stock 16x7 rims......what size should I get??? 205???

TIA

:drink1:

yep... 205/55-16s... and btw, the 235/40 sive has been notoriously hard on front rims over the years (95 M3s came this way)... and Mille Miglias are not known for beeing as strong as their competitors, so I'd try to limit the amount of track/DE work they get. the ylook great though and the tires are awesome if you can cut the check! (still think AVS ES100s are a better match to the car)

If you stock 16's are only 7" wide, you'll likely have to get the Nitto 225's, but if you have 7.5's you might be able to squeeze the BFG DR's on there in 255's...

nope, you made the wrong decision.

Anything less than TWENTY's just ain't cuttin' it in todays world. :biglaughb

Actually, I saw those on one of the cars Rukman has on his site. They looked damn good too. I'm at odds at which rims I should get for the Coupe myself. On one hand, I want the Breyton Visions so damn bad, but on the other hand, I hate to lose that nice dish. :dunno

Plus, don't Visions weigh like 400 lbs each? :D

I remember seeing them on some one's photo too.
Do they come hub-centric? or do you need an adaptor?
Once you get them, post a photo or I can come by to look at them!

Rock on!!!:evil2

Yeah, stock rims are 16x7.....no BFG DR's for me:bawl

Will have to make due with the Nitto's (which is still a damn good DOT DR)

Mille Miglias are soft? hmmmmm, you know, I think I recall someone with a 1.9L having the MM "Spiders" and they said that they easily bend.......and ended up replacing them.

How about the AT Italia's?

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/images/atitalia/swap/at_flash_sport_ci3_l.jpg

The SSR's are nice, but pricey. The GT3 looks damn good, but only available in 18" for my 1.9L

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/images/ssr/swap/ssr_gt3_ci3_l.jpg

The GT1 is available in 17", but doesn't look as good as the GT3

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/images/ssr/swap/ssr_gt1_ci3_l.jpg

What's nice about the SSR's is that they come in sport package....wider rears:buttrock

The GT3 is 18x8.5 front (225/40) and 18x9.5 rear (245/35)

The GT is 17x8 front (225/45) and 17x9 rear (245/40)

Now, if I were to go with say the 18" and install the H&R springs and Bilsteins (lowers a good inch to an inch quarter) and do an alignment.........when I go to mount up the stock 16" for drag nights....wouldn't I have issue with my alignment afterwards when I swap again????

The Mille Miglia wheels are not softer wheels. They are German TUV approved and have to withstand the same strength and durabilty test as any of the other wheels we carry.
The Impera is a beautiful wheel on the car.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

But you knoooooow, seeing as it's the holiday season and all, hook me up with a nice deal on some RKII's for the Coupe. 18' all around, and 10's out back please. :D

I just want to put in my 2 cents, I have the AVS ES100s and I am very happy with them. I have not done any formal skidpad testing but by my seat-of-the pants impression, they are very grippy. You can easily take right hand 90 degree turns at 35 mph with no sliding. I have bought a G-Tech/PRO which should be arriving in a few days . . . I will be able to post numbers then after going to a local parking lot :evil2 :D

Nice but Mille's are HEAVY! 17's are about 22-24lbs each...don't ask about the 18's.....ouch!
