use for the e36? They want $376 just for the friggin part and I'm missing a blade. I vowed a long time ago to never give those bastards another dime if I could help it. Isn't it just a e36 318 fan or something? If I get the plastic assembly, can I just mount into onto the Dinan extension that's already on there to clear the crank pulley? How can I save some money on this?

TIA,
ms

if you remove the fan clutch from the car, then you can remove the plastic fan off the clutch. it should have a part # on it. just order that. but yes i think it is the 318. you don;t need the clutch itslef just the plastic fan. it should be part #1 on this (http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BE53&mospid=47480&btnr=11_0632&hg=11&fg=35) page.

Yes.. Dinan uses the 318 fan and fan clutch.. which is a different clutch than is used by our stock M3 fan. Since iM running the M3 fan with the Dinan kit, might I suggest youll get alot more cooling if you go ahead and implement that instead?! If you decide to stay with your 318 fan, at least make sure that youre existing 318 fan clutch is still good before you order the replacement 318 fan alone sans clutch.. Ive had to replace my fan clutch before.. Typically, if its working youll hear a loud whirring sound at idle if you give it gas, or at low speed takeoff as you accelerate once the engine is hot especially on a hot day. If you dont hear this on a hot day/engine, suspect the fan clutch is no good. Also, once you suspect its no good, a badly slipping fanclutch will allow you to stop the blades in motion with very little effort.

The M3 fan is 420mm with 11 blades, and the 318 fan is 410 mm with 11 blades also. And they use different clutches like paul said. I can get parts alot cheaper then that, PM with what you need, the M3 blade and clutch or 318 blade and clutch, and I will quote you a price.

BTW, folks, heres a close up of what the OE M3 fan looks like in a Dinan modified fan shroud installation installation. Note how with just a few filed or snipped plastic edges on the shroud, the bigger fan fits no problem, and especially guys with an rms aftercooler who lose your aux fans, this is a god send when its AC season :)
