SpecRaceM5 08-16-2006, 03:12 AM sweet. was hoping you were in ca but az is not to far. if you were closer i would loan you my valve adjustment tool.
NikosX 08-16-2006, 01:25 PM oh sweet. I really appreciate it man. Im too afraid to get in there myself. Id break something and end up selling my house to fix it.

nixter 08-16-2006, 02:15 PM Nice! What are your mod plans for it? ..If any. Clear corners, tails and markers would be cool. Shadowline window trim, maybe a little tint? I like those wheels quite a bit, they have a nice dish on them. The origingal t-stars look great on black M5s too. M-pars would also be nice and I think I know of someone who's unloading a full set (5), if you're interested.
Anyways, nice car!

Very nice--I agree with Nix with the exception of the shadowline--with your all black car I think the chrome sets the line of the windows off nicely. M-parallels and clear corners, euro trim, and clear rear tail blinkers would be awesome...the 530 sport wheels are nice, but don't belong on an M5 IMO...

Those wheels look like Beyern Mesh wheels. Are they?
Looks fantastic!

NikosX 08-16-2006, 05:34 PM Hey all. Thanks for the compliments and suggestions. The wheels are Roundel style 58's. I have the original Turbine wheels, and if anything I might put them back on and remove the turbine covers. Honestly...with a black car, I kinda like the orange corners. I know that sounds ridiculous but hey. Ive got stuff planned in the future, but for now im loving every second with it.
Nick
nixter 08-16-2006, 05:39 PM You could always find a set of t-star cover on ebay if you like them better. Actually the turbines you have are somewhat rare now so I bet you could arange a swap with someone over at m5board. Mpars would look sick on your car though!

Indeed. Gorgeous car. Congrats.

Hmm, I think they are Rondells.

The turbines are not rare, they are more common than the t-stars, though most of the time with the m-systems you will see the t-star cap on the wheel. I have three sets of turbines in the basement...and I may get rid of one set, I dont need that many turbines.

1992 M5
Black on light grey
Looks like a winner.
Would you mind PMing me the VIN? A 1992 M5 is not a common year, and I have been databasing all of the E34 M5s on the road for about 7 years...wondering if I have yours down or not. 'Preciate it...

At any given time you will find more t-stars for sale than turbines. Rare (er)

Nah, Ive seen far more turbines on the market than t-stars. Ebay and craigslist in particular.
nixter 08-16-2006, 08:34 PM This is definately worth arguing over. you win, congrats.

Its not about arguing, its about the facts.

God that's gorgeous. Nice car man.

although I agree that I see more turbines for sale on ebay and such, I hardly see any hard facts that prove they arent more or less rare than the t-stars. If you had production #'s on each then maybe facts would come into play...everything Ive read is opinions.
And your car looks dope, enjoy it!

You know I cant pass up a chance to be an asshole.
nixter 08-16-2006, 10:01 PM nevermind, this thread has been hijacked enough.

Its ok, thread hijacking is the essence of Bfc.

A few facts, and I like that joe friday pic...may have to make it my avatar.
Worldwide production numbers for the E34 M5 up to 1993:
1988 331
1989 2339
1990 3022
1991 2033
1992 224
1993 130
Total 8079
Assuming that the t-star switch was made at the start of 1992, there are far more turbines. I cannot tell you how many people switched from turbines to t-stars, but from the numbers we have, we can judge that there are more turbines (even with 33% of the turbines going to t-stars).
nixter 08-16-2006, 10:43 PM ...Probably why I go to a certain other M5board for anything seriously M5 related. :) This board is fun though.
Sorry if we got off on the wrong foot. And no, that black M5 (with spoiler- eww), wasn't me! If you were super curious I could probably figure out who it was. There's a vancouver M5 mailing list and I think a fair number of the e34 m5 owners belong to it.

Cheers! yeah, Im a bitch to everyone now and then, even Beastmaster (and especially Stevie on M5board, but we have good discussions now).
What is the link to the vancouver mailing list...its not the e34m5 yahoo group?:
Grim Reaper 08-16-2006, 11:09 PM Vancouver? There must be alot of M5s up in that area because I have been going to Whistler one or two times a year for board trips and I always see one or two E34 M5s while crusing up from Vancouver or in Whistler Village.
Most memorable sighting was last winter when a friend said, theres a M5 like yours. :confused
It was a early 3.6 black one with bike rack and blizzacks. At least it was out front of the Village liquor store on New Years Eve. :D
hootie 08-17-2006, 01:45 AM i am so jealous.
Mblaster 08-17-2006, 11:54 AM DeWitt is right, there are far more turbine covers available than t-stars. Especially here in the states where the M5 was only imported untill 93. Remember all the early cars came std with 8in turbines.
I had to get my late staggered set of t-stars from Germany.
PS great looking car!!
shragon 08-17-2006, 12:51 PM nice!! congrats!!

There's no link, it's just a list of email addresses belonging to local m5 owners.

NikosX 08-17-2006, 07:22 PM Thanks guys. Regardless of the rarity of the wheels, I still like my turbines.
I just got the car back from the garage. My mechanic told me that the car did not need a valve adjustment. Everything was running perfectly. He also said that the car was bone dry and not leaking a drop of oil. You all know how the e34 M5's were notorious for oil leakage at the valve cover, and elsewhere.
The car also needed an AC belt and a power steering belt. I had both those changed.
The only mod that I'm thinking of right now is getting a cam gear from a 3.8l car.
Thanks for all the compliments!
Nick
