So, I bought an M50 manifold from a guy offering a pretty decent price here on bf.c. The price didnt include shipping and, not wanting to hassle the guy, I agreed to just paypal him $40 over the price w/ his promise to paypal back the difference. Figuring funds might be tight for the guy, no biggie, right?

Well, a couple days later he emails that shipping was 42 and he covered the extra 2. Obviously, I'd been screwed. Well, I waited for the package to arrive so I could get exact size, weight, and originating zipcode info...sure enough, he screwed me. He made me pay for his lazy ass to have it boxed up by the UPS store.

What say you, scammed?

I'm witholding the guys name/alias on the off chance that he'll actually refund me the $25.60 he owes me. I've emailed him and pm'd him already. We'll see. I haven't even opened the phooking box yet. Lord knows what I'll find when I do.

Dude, no I'm not out of line at all. I'm sure that you either include shipping in your price or let people know that they're paying a ridiculous premium for a half-ass packing job so you dont have to be bothered when you use the UPS store, right?

And that other people have been screwed for bigger amounts does not mean that I wasn't screwed.

after re-reading your first post I better understand it- you already have the intake and now you know what the cost was. I'd be a lil pissed too. I have done similar things in the past, but I always paypal them the change back. maybe they will do that.

Update: The bf.c member I bought from is clutterbucker http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=20831 . He is refusing to refund my money even though he clearly admits that he charged me for packing in addition to shipping. He also thinks he's a tough guy. Don't buy anything from this fool.

If someone sent me $40 to ship something with and return the change, I wouldn't feel compelled to bargain-shop.

He needs the $40 for his drug addiction.

If you got screwed, it was by the UPS store and yourself, not the seller.

You obviously felt like you got a good/great deal on the manifold- otherwise why would you have agreed to pay $40 up front for shipping??

Some people don't have the time or simply don't want to be hassled with packing and shipping stuff, while some think it's no big deal and will spend an hour to pack up a $5 item to make sure it gets delivered safely.

Maybe he could have told you in advance that he was gonna take the mani to the UPS store to be packed and shipped, but he didn't. So in a way he's lazy or busy, but not a scammer. You got your part, right?

It's not like he's walking around with your forty bucks. Don't forget the added benefits of having them pack the stuff. If you had gotten the part busted up and they(ups) said to you, "well, we offered to pack up the item but since we didn't, the insurance doesn't apply", then you'd be on here complaining that the guy didn't take enough time or care to pack up the intake right.

On ebay, it's an accepted fact that the cost of "Shipping and Handling" is supposed to cover the actual postage in addition to boxes, tape, padding, gas to the post-office, and even lunch if the seller wants it to. You didn't agree on a shipping price so don't start complaining and accusing someone of swindling you. He didn't make any money off of you for the time he spent driving to the ups store, in fact, he paid more money out of his pocket than you paid. I don't see him in this thread accusing you of being cheap and demanding his $2 from you.(insert sound of paper boy screaming "Give me my two dollars!!") You got the part you wanted, shipped to your door and for the price you wanted.

It's ridiculous that you're complaining about this. Makes good sellers think twice about helping out the community.

I have to agree,

Live and learn, I really dont see the seller at fault. He used the money to get the part shipped to you. Like said above this is not e-bay, IMO you take more of a risk from buying from an individual then on e-bay and YOU have to make sure shipping is covered or not. Just be more responsible next time and ask, is the price shipped? how much shipped? Is shipping insurance more? ect..... its not all laid out like e-bay is, so you have to ask these kind of questions so you dont run into problems.
