I live in Reno which is 5000ft of elevation and my air fuel ratio is between 15.7 - 15.9, Is this normal? What is the perfect reading? The previous owner told me that the car was tuned by David of active autowerke. What can I do to get this fix.
Thank you so much. God bless.

///3oris 08-14-2006, 05:10 PM Under what conditions do you see the AFR of 15.7-15.9? What are you using to check your AFR's?
The more specific information you can post, especially about the type of setup you have, the better.

Bav///Man 08-14-2006, 07:18 PM wow. Not horrible to see jumps to 15.7 at idle, but while boosting? Way too lean, I wouldn't boost again until I got it figured out.
Shuasha 08-14-2006, 07:31 PM Might want to recalibrate your wideband. It might have been calibrated for a different elevation/oxygen content.

Putting a CAT in the car without changing anything willl not affect your engines ait/fuel ratio. All the cat does is burns off he extra HC's and CO's with trying to reduce NOX.
Thats nothing to do with your engines Air fuel ratio

Im not saying elevation couldnt be playing a factor but I have a feeling something happend when installing the cat (wideband sensor or other possibiliteis)... jlag has also complained to me about a fluxuating idle (now i dont know if he is running the car w/ this problem and getting these "high" readings because if he is I would contribute them to a vac leak somewere (causing the high readings and fluxuting or "bouncing" idle)
This should get him and everyone else started on the right foot ... im trying to help him out all I can but its hard when its on the other side of the country and I cannot see/hear/look at the car.

So the wideband is now after the cat(mistakenly??) or am I misunderstanding?
Shuasha 08-16-2006, 11:27 PM Test the A/F with a different wideband. The AEM UEGO's have had a recent track record of being wrong/bad. Another member on this board had the same wideband with a similar problem, I put in my LM-1 and it showed that A/F's were actually perfect.
dinans3m3 08-17-2006, 12:58 AM If you used air tools to install the cat then you just screwed up the wideband sensor. It is indeed sensitive as are the standard OEM oxygen sensors. Just want to clear that up. After my friend installed a AA track pipe for his Rotrex kit, the shop used an airgun to take the midpipes off, all his O2 sensors were on the blink as was his wideband. It was constantly reading lean all of a sudden. Just a suggestion.
BTW if you are running an AEM AFR gauge i believe theres a 1.8turbo Volkswagon that runs the exact same oxygen sensor which AEM uses on their widebands.
325icintn 08-17-2006, 09:52 AM Why would an air tool screw up a wideband? What kind of air tool are you talking about? A rotary grinder? Reciprocating saw?
elements018 08-24-2006, 02:48 PM hes talking about impact guns, they can damage the 02's because how rough they can be
