Hi,
I was heading home from DC tonight on a rather empty stretch of highway, route 228. There were a few cars behind me with one being practically up my tailpipe. I could tell it was a bimmer from the lights, so I accelerated away from the other traffic. He flew by and I thought that it was a new M3, it had the "shark fin" antenna and side grills. Did seem a little higher and more bulky.

So he slowed down and I continued past him. When I realized he was going to get on it I downshifted, putting me right in the sweet spot of forth gear. In forth gear my car will pass a stock or light bolt on LS1 camaro. I hit it and seconds later he flew by a an outragous speed. He pulled on me faster then my friends 400rwhp Z28.

Can a new M3 do that, or was that most likely a new M5? A 951 with similar mods and hp should usually hang with a newer M3 especially at higher speeds. That was a massacre!

I am not familiar with P-Cars as they all look the same, so I don't know what model yours is. But if it was an M5, it probably would've been him walking you like he was on a motorcylce. Check my link, maybe this video will actually tell the members what it was like racing that bimmer regardless of what it was.

well, if he beats ls1's with his 4th gear, how is he going to lose to an e46 m3?

0-60 mph : 5.7 seconds
0-1/4 mile : 14.2 seconds
Top speed : 245 km/h / 152 mph
Horsepower : 217 hp @ 5800 rpm
Torque : 243 ft lbs @ 3500 rpm
That's not bad for a 1986. And it's rather easy to crank up the boost.
Excellent handling as well.

You don't know what a 951 looks like?

SilverBullet - what have you got done to your 951?

Obviously if you normally hang with/walk E46 M3's, then this was either very modified or was an M5 or M6. It would really help if you could have identified it. Can you remember any distinguishing details?

Nice car I love 951's!

How many doors did the car have? The newer gen M3's only came with 2 doors, and the M5 only with 4 doors, so that may answer your question. Given the outcome of the race, if it was an M3 it was probably modded to do that to you.

Your all missing what it obviously is, it was an e36 328

Or perhaps it was Chuck Norris on a tricycle.

Did the vehicle you race have four wheels or three? :D

I love 951s. My friend and I trade cars sometimes and I drive his 951. Hes got some decent mods and is putting down a little over 300 rwhp. Such a fun car to drive. I love that rollercoaster feeling when the turbo spools.

four wheel bmw's don't have "shark fins" , so it must have been the three :)

My car has some decent mods and just dynoed at 246rwhp and 274rwtq. That was enough to start pulling past either a LS1 Trans Am or Camaro in fouth gear. Maybe it was a M5. The car started about three car lengths back and by the time I gave up was about three buslengths ahead!

that video always pisses me off, he destroyed a perfectly good 911, and had to do it by blowing it up!
oh, and BMWs are the Ultimate Driving Machine, but There Is No Substitute for a Porsche.

According to your specs, looks like you lost to an e46 M3.

maybe it was a M coupe? I mean any car can have the 'shark fin' ant. installed ... and the coupe does have the grills....

Bullet, didnt feel like responding on rennlist, but I'd venture a guess that he was probably supercharged.

On a completely OT note, I walked an e39 M5 yesterday and enjoyed it :)

Sounds like an E60 M5...

You keep saying the styling of the "new" M3...but the E46 M3 has been out for almost 6 years and I believe you are thinking more of the Bangle-looking design...E60 M5. :)

I am not very familiar with P-cars but my buddy has a P-car that looks like the pictured one. Except his was a 944 and correct me if I am wrong it's the same body style? If so, the 951 has to be a better performing car than my buddy's. I smoke my buddy's car, he has a 4 banger in his. But on the highways weaving in and out of traffic and junctions, his car does quite well in the handling department.

951 is the internal designation for the 944 Turbo. They are the same bodies, and the engines are quite similar, the blocks are the same IIRC. The stock 944's engine isn't all that great, but 150hp isn't anything to down at all. Stock for stock, a 944 would take any e36, except for maybe an M3. My brother had to keep the revs above 3500 if he wanted to actually keep accelerating semi-quickly.

i dont see how that pulls on a car that dynos at 280+ rwhp? That has low gearing/6spd(or does your car have a 6spd too) Maybe you did run into a modded e46m3...as they dyno at 275hp stock so maybe with some mods it was pushing 300...who knows, do you atleast remember whether it was 2 door or 4 door?

MPD47- your car looks insane! I've seen it before on Rennlist, what are your mods?

Yeah, I think it was a M5. It seemed bigger than an E46 M3, and more curvy. I didn't realise the new M5 had the Bangle body, the car just didn't seem like a normal M3. Whatever it was, it definately represented the "Ultimate driving machine" title!!!

Now for that Vitesse Stage 3 that I've been wanting to get....

Thats M life- 951s are geared for top end. They are horrible off the line but really get going at around 60-70. It's all midrange and topend powerband. A camaro would have me until about 80 or so and then I would pass. Plus my car is only 2900 pounds.

951s with my mods can usually hang with a M3 at higher speeds but shouldn't really pull on one, how does a E46 compare to a stock LS1 F-body?

well from what people say on here a stock e46m3 vs stock ls1 is a drivers race from dig but from a roll the ls1 will walk away...i mentioned this on the dfwstang forum that has a shit load of ls1 camaros/tas and even gtos and they all said that was incorrect and they have gotten walked by e46m3's before and seen a bone stock gto dead even with a smg 03 m3 from a 60roll..so i really dont know till i get in the situation myself in which ill be sure to post the results.

I would think that the M3 would get a LS1 from a roll, but LS1s are really mean from a stop. I guess since both are low 13 sec cars they should be similar.

just wondering... why does every kill story always go back to "x model BMW vs. LSx car"?

silverbullet951, don't worry about it... it's time to get some parts from lindsey racing or powerhaus for that 951. :)

Reading comprehension FTW.

I thought it was obvious but I should have indicated that the specs I posted are for the 1986 951, stock.

That's not bad for a 1986. And it's rather easy to crank up the boost.

Another clue:

No offense meant to you Nick, it's just a pet peeve of mine when people post without understanding the thread.
