View Full Version : Torque steer? SilverStreak 11-26-2002, 01:41 AM Any of you folks, S folks especially, experience any torque steer with the FWD Mini??? Kyle K. 11-26-2002, 02:51 AM I've definately not experienced any. MINI claims that there is none due to the equal length half shafts... but I've heard (from other Cooper people of course :D) that the S does have some torque steer... but the S crowd seems to think that this is untrue... I doubt it would have much of any, if any though.... lets wait for Snapper or Beastmaster to answer though..... they're the ones with holes in their noses :D The Beastmaster 11-26-2002, 04:13 AM I haven't noticed torque steer. However, I have noticed severe tramlining when punching it off the line on uneven surfaces. SilverStreak 11-26-2002, 10:41 AM Thanks for the feedback! snappermini 11-26-2002, 08:19 PM None here. I have not noticed any torque steer or wheel hop while under extreme acceleration. Even when powering out of corners the car feels like it is flat. SilverStreak 11-27-2002, 01:04 PM That is extremly good to hear!!! :evil2 kapolani 11-27-2002, 03:06 PM I agree. It holds speed well through a turn. I've only gotten it to exhibit understeer once; when I carried too much speed into a turn. LOL. Duh. SilverStreak 11-27-2002, 05:31 PM Ok, so who is gonna let me run their Cooper S at the Drag Strip for some 1/4 mile times??? :evil2 Kyle K. 11-27-2002, 07:54 PM You can run my Cooper... :dunno See if you can break it into the 17s :biglaughb :biglaughb snappermini 11-27-2002, 08:14 PM We can trade for a few runs.:redspot When is your next trip to Florida? SilverStreak 11-28-2002, 12:42 PM  at Kyle, 16's baby!! 16's or bust! :buttrock Snap, not sure, but I already have a standing order to run Omer's 600 hp M Coupe at the track when I arrive..., so we can add your car to that list... :) snappermini 11-28-2002, 08:21 PM Let me know where and when, we can try to beat my personal best of 15.2 SilverStreak 12-02-2002, 12:26 PM I will, but realistically, it could be a while for me to get South... :( badbadm 12-12-2002, 11:52 PM The Cooper S will torque steer on uneven or loose surfaces, or when tire grip is compromised, especially with some power mods. SilverStreak 12-14-2002, 01:41 AM Thanks, badbadm... Does the car track/slot in pavement with grooves, etc...? badbadm 12-14-2002, 09:28 AM Originally posted by SilverStreak Thanks, badbadm... Does the car track/slot in pavement with grooves, etc...? The tires are skinny enough that this is not much of an issue. Under braking, generally, it won't do it. Under full power, sometimes (grooves in pavement compromise grip again). SilverStreak 12-17-2002, 02:28 PM Cool, thanks for the info, again! :) mDeb 12-28-2002, 08:54 AM There is a Mini S on a lot in Cullman, AL for sale with 850 miles on it... 23K... or less.... I felt like they would let you test drive it. But you would have to come south. SilverStreak 01-07-2003, 06:30 PM Thanks, Deb, I'll stick to Princeton when/if the time comes... :) Kyle K. 01-07-2003, 07:20 PM Princeton BMW has a Z8 right now :buttrock :D SilverStreak 01-08-2003, 08:40 AM really? what color? Fordman50 01-16-2003, 08:15 AM The mini is FWD ? :( I was interested in those cars for my wife SilverStreak 01-30-2003, 10:33 AM Ian, FWD might be good for the wife in the winter, etc... badbadm 01-30-2003, 01:58 PM Originally posted by Fordman50 The mini is FWD ? :( I was interested in those cars for my wife It's the best-handling fwd car ever made, by most accounts, if that makes you feel better. It out-slaloms the E46 M3 fairly easily. Kyle K. 01-30-2003, 05:08 PM Originally posted by badbadm It's the best-handling fwd car ever made, by most accounts, if that makes you feel better. It out-slaloms the E46 M3 fairly easily. Thats partially because of its much shorter wheelbase, but it definately holds is own with the much bigger hitters :buttrock Oh, and Dave, its silver, and I think its still there  SilverStreak 02-04-2003, 09:42 AM Princeton BMW has a silver Mini right now? Is it an "S"? satyen119 02-04-2003, 01:10 PM I think he meant that the Z8 is silver...:az: Kyle K. 02-04-2003, 03:44 PM Yeah, they've got the silver Z8. They've got bunches of MINIs... probably 10 or so at any given time on the lot :dunno SilverStreak 02-04-2003, 09:21 PM Z8, Cooper, same difference... :D |
