Hi, My radio speakers stopped working. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it. Now the radio and the on-board computer does not power on. Fuses 46 and 69 are both ok. Any clues as to what the problem maybe ? All helps are appreciated. Thanks

hmmm...so you have a 740iL...are you aware that a "740iL" ranges from a 1993 E32 7 series up to a 2001 E38 7 series? And within that range of years...there are multiple "radios" that you can have.

Please help us help you better by indentifying WHAT 740iL you have...OR...update your User Profile and fill in your car's data...like year & date at the least.

If you have an E38 7 series...depending on year and options...do you have navigation....or is this a non-nav car?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. My car is a 1997 740il and there is no navigation.

I'm not sure if the e38's cass/tape unit has a fuse in its wiring harness...but the other radio units that have the same type of harness does. You can easily remove the cass/tape unit to check the rear of it...there a two small doors on each side of the tape unit...open the doors and turn the 5-sided bolts counter clockwise to retract the side wings that compress against the opening to secure it in the dash.

You can see on the rear of this BMW CD43 radio unit...the fuse is red and in the upper right of the wiring pins...check if you have one of those and if it is blown.

My radio stpped working when my on board computer crashed. It seems they are both tied together. I bought a new computer on ebay for under $200, the one that goes in your trunk by the CD Changer and that fixed my problem.

See post #3. :D You (obviously) are not posting about a problem...but you have tossed a possible solution into the ring. Now, in the future when/if anyone does a search and your post is listed...they will see a solution but not have a clue as to which 740iL (e32 or e38) you are referring to.

There is a lot of information one can cull from looking at a completed car info/profile or signature...and looking/searching for info in the archives is one of them.

Please consider adding your car's year & model and any other pertinent info that you can think of that might be helpful to others when answering questions or looking for solutions. :)

He clearly states he has a 97 740il on his profile. Thats the first thing I noticed. Not to hard to guess what model he has unless he added it after the question was asked. Anyways, Catman60 maybe it's your amp craping out.

Hi Osilver7, Thanks so much for the detailed information including the picutre of the radio. I was able to remove the cassette and check the fuse. It was a 7.5 amp fuse with power and tested good. Best Regards

Hi Ecko, What do you mean by 'Amps carping out' ? I replaced my factory battery many years ago with a Sears International and there never has been a problem. Also, the on-board computer seem to work fine, because all the statistics can be displayed on the dash using the left side lever on the steering wheel. The only problem is that the radio/on-board computer middle panel does not power on. Best regards

Ecko...yes, Catman60 went back and upgraded his car info. :D He initially replied in Post #4 with his car info and has since gone back and entered that info into his profile. ;)

Must consider that he initially asked his question 4 days ago, too. :)
