This is the third CD changer thread on the board this week. I figured I would jump on the bandwagon while the changer issues were HOT! ;)
2000 540i/6 with DSP and OEM CD Changer.
My OEM CD changer is having an intermittent problem. One of the CD tray's will get stuck (#3 I think). It plays fine but when the changer tries to changer to a different disc, the tray will not retract into the cartridge. I have to go back to the trunk and wiggle the cartridge around and hit the eject button a few times before it comes out.
It doesnt do this all the time but it has done it several times lately. Is there any way to clean or adjust the changer to help with this problem?
thanks

always the same tray?
Stop using that tray.
And then you will have a perfectly working 5 disc changer

Roll your eyes all you want, I was dead serious.
often changing the magazine helps, but to what permanence I do not know.
Alpine no longer makes the magazine 2 packs (mega bummer) and you'll be hard pressed to find a one pack (I bought out my local distributor - glad I picked up alpine!!!)
Leaves you with the dealer.
I know moderator JayHudson is an alpine dealer, he may be able to hook you up....?
I've got some spare drawers here for that magazine, maybe that would help?
Email me.

The rolled eyes were sarcasm, I was expecting a smart ass remark from someone! :D
So you think the problem might be the cartridge or the individual tray? I just hypothesized that it was the changer/transport mechanism, but it makes more sense that it is the cartridge if it is the same tray all the time.
I thought the OEM changers were made by Pioneer?

often I get this problem on a sales car here. instead of making the mistake of sending the changer out for a rebuild, I swap magazines and all is well.
I like that...
BMW only used pioneer changers on older (92-) models and on 95-99 7 series cars. Oh, and the 840/850. Why did they use the worst changer on the priciest models? The most common changer, the "All but 7'er 1996-2002" changer is an alpine.

Hmmm. Ebay's not a bad place to look for CD changer magazines.
