I am really hoping that I am not the only one that this has ever happened to. I bought a clarion head unit a few weeks ago and then my car went into the shop. When it came back it was all better and i went to install the enw head unit. Wiring Harness and everything was good but when i went to see if it worked the speakers made no noise and the head unit would not find any radio stations. When i plugged the old head unit in it was locked again...I had unlocked it before i tried to install the new one. So i unlocked it and tried to put the new one in again and the same thing happened. I put the old one in one more time and it was locked again and asked for the code that i had previously put in. I am at a loss. Is there a different code for the new head unit and if so where can it be found. If there is not then how can this problem be fixed. Is there any way around this. Thanks for the help.

What does any of this have to do with Clarion?
It sounds like you can't get the code to work on your bmw radio, but its hard
to decipher the short string of sentences.

You should just be able to plug in your new headunit and go. That's what I did with mine. Took all of about 15mins and I was rockin.

If you have an aftermarket HU, it probably doesn't need a code, you are jumping to conclusions, I think, about the cause.
I think you have the dreaded blue blue/white wire problem. Tie the blue and blue white together off of the Clarion and then the OEM amp will turn on and all will be well, we hope.

I have the code and that works fine but when i remove the factory head unit to put the new head unit in it does not work. There is power going to it and everything becasue it lights up but it will not pick up and radio signals and wont play any CD's. Then when i put the factory head unit back in it says that it needs the code again. It seems almost like the stereo system is locking itself when i remove the factory head unit and i dont know why. I thought maybe there was another code for the new head unit or something but as of now i have not been able to find it.

I tried that and it showed absolutely no improvement...:(. Any other ideas?

an aftermarket radio does not need codes. You either have it wired wrong or the unit is bad.

Doesn't the factory head unit lock when the power is removed?
Unplugging the head unit removes the power, thereby locking it.
I think you need to make sure that the antenna amp is powered or something like that (blue or yellow wire).
I put a Clarion in but it was a couple of years ago.
If I can find the docs I will look it up.

sounds like you forgot to power on the factory amp with the amp lead from the clarion. Stop putting the factory radio back in and look at your wiring?

thank you jay!

Your radios, are wholly unrelated. However, your test proves 1 of two things: Your new radio is junk, and broken, OR more likely:
Sounds like you have the head unit wired incorrectly. Who wired it?
Any way you can get us a couple pictures of your wiring?
