I really didnt think this was going to be so dang hard! Maybe one of you can help me out a little. I have a Nakamichi CD400 and attempting to add an external amp. I grounded the amp. Ran the blue wire to the amp. Then ran the red power to the amp. The ran the RCAs from the back of the HU to the amp. The power light comes on the amp but nothing to the speakers. I still have the rears playing out of the HU and was attempting to amp the fronts. NOTHING!!!!!!!

Can any one tell me from my ramblings what could be the problem?

Well, you describe connecting power and ground and remote turn on and signal input to the amp. (We can only assume that your power and ground are appropriate gauge and fused and all that).

You do not describe connecting any speaker wires to the amp. Perhaps the problem lies on the amp's spaker output side?

The speaker wires are connected. it was a simple disconnect from orginal and reconnect to amp. The one thing that I do not have at this time is an inline fuse on the power cable. The red wire is hooked directly to the battery. Could that be the problem?

Not a problem if you dont mind blowing up your amp

Very dangerous if it were to short.

Where is your amp wire grounded, is it a solid spot without any paint or other material that would prevent it from grounding?

Is there a setting on your Head Unit to turn on and off the pre-outs or some other setting on the head unit preventing signal from getting to the amp?

Get a Discman or iPod and a mini-headphone to RCA stereo adapter.

With the stereo off connect the player to the inputs of the amp. Turn the player volume to minimum.

Turn on the radio. Play with the volume of the player. Do you get sound?

If not, obtain a 9v battery. Then disconnect the speaker wires. Briefly touch the (-) wire to the battery (-) while holding the (+) to the (+) terminal (or vice versa, doesn't matter, but complete the circuit for just a moment). Did the speaker make a "pop" sound? If not you have the wrong speaker wires.

You know what? Ignore what I said. If you couldn't be bothered to find out proper amplifier installation before this, you won't learn t-shooting now.

Go to a pro.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate the tough luv. Turns out that I had a bad ground. I sanded down a good spot and all of a sudden everything worked fine.

Since the battery was easy enough to connect to, I actually grounded the amp directly to the battery. Easy enough.

You grounded the amp back to the battery!? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
