Made this last night, its a little Lounge seat for trackside or in the garage. Has speakers built in underneath (m3 rear deck speakers) and the seats are e46 m3 seats, fully functional 4-way adjustable. In the future i'll be adding arm rests with cup holders, and popup leg rests. Fun little project for $60 a couple hours.

(bottom picture was before i screwed in the switch panel).

Niiiiiiiiiiice. I'm gonna use my stock seats and put it on rollers and make a desk chair out of it. Speakers were a nice touch, but how are you going to play music thru em?

We got a bunch of OMP seats around, one has already been made into a pc simulator chair :)

These will most likely be permanently placed in the garage, so they'll be hooked up the meda centre for tv/movies/music whatever. They connect like any other speaker to any reciever device. They can be like the rear center channel in a 7.1 system.

Cool... I was wondering how you were gonna do signal (mount a cd player?) and power the chairs + stereo (12v car battery?), seemed a bit annoying to lug around trackside. Looks like a good setup for head-to-head Grand Turismo tho. ;)

heated seats?

Not heated, but the garage is heated, so it'll be ok. Would have been nice to have heated seats trackside during those close to winter races :) But thats what a heated trailer is for lol

I'm still trying to figure out the best power supply to use. Hobby shops have 10-14amp 12vdc converters from 115vac, so they will just plug intpo any outlet, which is perfect for track paddock as most of the trailers have generators. Speakers just take any old signal, could be from anything. I tested them with a small stereo though and they are crystal clear, just not too much Bass (these were only from the business cd stereo not harmon kardon.

Why does it have to weigh a ton?

The seats are heavy...they prob are 75lbs each, but the base is only abouit 40lbs, maybe less. 1.5" 16 guage Mild. ~ 14ft of tubing. (48x15 top)

But the weight is good for the seats b/c it keeps the thing Planted. I just have to make little peices to under the legs so it can be moved around easier, its digging into the epoxy floor :(

Exactly... so the thing's ~200 lbs as it stands. That's a bit to lug around!

Eh, not a big deal, two people can easily lift it out of the way.

I'll weight it if you are that concerned...its going in a garage anyways!

The OMP lounge version I'll make light just for you :)

haha. The stock seats in the garage and a special light version to use trackside? :D

I think it's a cool idea :)

Haha... thanks!

Seriously tho, mount some casters on the feet, and you could just roll it off the trailer. Make a frame for an auto battery, and mount up an old CD headunit, you're good to go.

i brought up the weight because you were talking about bringing this to the track. i think if i had to haul 200lbs in and out of the trailer a couple times, i would get real tired of it.

i think it needs footrests

Well, lets see what we normally "haul" out of the trailer when we were racing:
Generator
Big-Ass Fan
8-16 wheels
Chairs
Tables
Jacks/jackstands
Coolers (full of ice/drinks)
Paddock Floormats (the big ones)
Fuel jugs/drums
ToolBoxes

An extra 15 seconds to bring this out would not be a big deal.

Its a luxury item persay :)

Plus, if its a trackside item I could post about it in the track forum lol This specific setup would not be very suitable for trackside, but I'm going to make a basically indentical base for the OMP seats, which will prob weigh under 75lbs for the entire unit.

On a side note, check out www.jaffster.com for some updates, got some motorsport components in.
