Where are you guys installing your radar detectors on the 745i? The windshield seems to have a thin metalic tint inside of it.

Lovemy02745 08-19-2006, 10:09 PM Thank you for the question. I was just about to get a good one.. I own an '02 745i. I would like to purchase one BEFORE I get the expensive speeding ticket. Jay in Pa. unirok 08-19-2006, 10:32 PM I currently have an Escort 8500 x50 which is one of the best detectors on the market and work great in other cars but only has limited range in the 745i E65 because of the metal solar shield in that cars windshield. Looks like the only option for me will be a remote located unit in the grill? crewdog843 08-20-2006, 09:28 AM On the older sevens (e38, for instance), there is a small square of un-tinted glass at the bottom middle center of the windshield where such devices as the radar detector and/or EZ PASS transponder may be located free of interference. Look for it from the inside, it should be visible once you know what to look for. jake Cruiser740i 08-20-2006, 09:59 AM My recently purchased 98 740i had a K40 already installed with both front and rear bumper mounted recievers. Took me 2 weeks to figure out what that little knob near the parking brake was! Next weekend I'll be visiting a 'no radar detectors allowed' state, not certain what to do. I suppose they could try to rip the receivers off of the bumpers and smash 'em. ;) unirok 08-20-2006, 08:12 PM On the older sevens (e38, for instance), there is a small square of un-tinted glass at the bottom middle center of the windshield where such devices as the radar detector and/or EZ PASS transponder may be located free of interference.
