I am looking for a good independent mechanic in Northern Central NJ.

I am in Long Valley, near chester and hacketstown.

Anybody around me know of a good, fair, honest mechanic that won't charge me an arm and a leg.

Depends for what...if it's just maintanance, give MSR a call, they could more than likely take care of you.

Hey I live in Flanders not far from you at all. Theres a good independent shop on 24 in Mendham/Morristown border if you wanna stay local.

MSR is really good to but a bit of a drive as ive gone there a few times.

If your up for the ride MSR, if not, the guys in Mendham are good. Europcar is the name. Very knowledgeble guys and theyve been there for 20+ years.

How far from Flanders, is MSR?

I also thought the dealt mostly with selling cars etc, I didn't know they did maintenance, very cool.

Its not too bad. Get on 206 and go south and take 287 to exit 1. From there maybe 15-20 minutes. Id say about 45 minutes to an hour with traffic. They are definatley cool guys, so it is kinda worth the trip, plus they know E36's like no ones business.

Thanks, I think I will take a ride down there, at least to check the place out. Maybe they won't become my all the time guys, but anything major.

I was actually talking about Mr. M car, I've never been to MSR.

I'm thinking MSR is the way to go, but for little things I will just take the car to my local guy.

However there are a few things I need to get done to the car, so i might as well go to MSR.

Not sure if MSR does this stuff but, my car need new tint all around, the tint on the car sucks.

Also I need the brakes done, the wheels aligned, perhaps new tires and some minor paint work, damn rocks chips.

Besides that I just want a good ol' tune up.

So does MSR do all this? Or will I have to go elsewhere for the tint and paint?

The tint, alignment, and paint you'd have to go elsewhere. I'll PM you as i just got tint not too long ago, and im getting an alignment and corner balancing done in about 2 weeks.

Hi, I'm the guy at MSR :wave

We can do most mechanical work, paint and body work I don't do but I have a guy locally who does very very nice work and is reasonable and pretty fast as well. (It's 2 brothers from Poland.. these guys learned how to do body work without Bondo and without spare parts.. they are amazing).

For alignments and what not I STRONGLY recommend Freedman Tire on Rt 27 in Edison or Performance Tire and Wheel on Rt 17S in Ridgewood. Freedman knows BMWs well (They are a UUC Distributor) and they do all of our alignment work and I have had very good luck with them.

Let me know which work you need done and I can give you an estimate, if it's just a brake job and what not we can usually get that knocked out while you wait or give you a car to run to the mall with or something like that. We're also just a few minutes from the Rahway and Metro Park NJ Transit stations and can shuttle you to and from there.

Our shop address is 800 New Brunswick ave, Rahway 07065.

Another thumbs up for MSR. I had the dreaded "radiator neck rupture" happen to me and I'd towed my ride to Bill. He was EXTREMELY helpful and efficient.

Thanks for the reply. He actually uses Essex BMW and needs to pick some things up from them so it's convienent to go there. I scheduled the appt for tomorrow morning. Hope they are a good dealer!
I'll def keep you guys in mind for future service needs as the reviews here are great. Have a good one.
