Jeremy just called as he was crossing the continental divide on his way home with the new car.

He should be here by late tonight.

so this is why he needed a ride to the aero-port...

Mr Project

I tried to get a pic of the car paparazzi-style on my way to work this AM, but apparently he managed to squeeze it in the garage! So we'll have to wait for him to awake from his post-1500-mile-drive-coma to update us.

I am home, indeed.

I got here, curtesy of a flat-bed, at about 4am.

nothing major, just aggravating.

did I mention that I'm tired.

did you know that the angel-eyes flash RED in a cadence with the hazard lights?????

i didn't know that... now I do.

Hopefully it's nothing more serious than a belt issue and it will be back on the road, terrorizing young children and the elderly in wheelchairs with a pavment-shredding 37.8 lb/feet of torque in no time.

Supercharger...?

Cant be..... the only decent supercharger for the M44 is the DASC and it is a roots type blower which you would be able to see.

Mr Project
08-08-2006, 11:17 AM
Sheridan, you are sooooo right. :) Don't goad him too much, though, I'm too busy with my own projects to do a supercharger install. :D

Dark Helmet
08-08-2006, 12:26 PM
thanks guys... this car came from a guy in cali, he's on the forum though, not MattyB...

Sheridan, it was missing the fan belt, that disintigrated about 200 yards south of capital parkway west on US 77, monday morning at 2am.

I replaced all the belts, as the others looked like crap, for about $30, traded armen some Taco Inn for an extra High-Pressure Switch, dropped ~$40 at the dealer in Sacto for an ambient air-temp sensor. (and new hardlines, drier and a condensor from BMA, that we won't discuss the price on, but it really did need anyway) it is all good.

it will need some longer-term work... like re-working the wiring for the lights (HID low-beams, HID Fogs, and DDEs), as its not well organized, one of the coolant temp sensor connectors is badly corroded (tonights project), and I'm actually going to remove some of the more aggressive suspension pieces and go to a "closer to stock" setup.

Dark Helmet
08-08-2006, 12:42 PM
also... it will be sporting a slightly different suspension tune for the SD trip... which makes me sad, but will be very good for tire life.

Mr Project
08-08-2006, 03:42 PM
BTW: The suspension and diff on Jeremy's car have the coveted "Crazy Armen's High Street Armenian Used Car Emporium Seal Of Approval" (tm). They will have to be re-certified after changing either component.

Honestly I think it's pretty forgiving at the limit and not that harsh on the old spine. If it wasn't for being 2 inches off the ground in a town where that just isn't practical every day (terrible roads and snow), I'd leave it as-is. I really think you should keep the diff, though. That ratio isn't that bad, and if you're still getting 30+ on the highway, you're not going to save much, if anything, $$ wise by going lower. Just fix the exhaust leak so you don't get too annoyed. And it DOES have enough power to spin the tires on corner-exit if you try hard enough...as we demonstrated. :)

I would find a 318 cluster, though...that tach would drive me nuts. I bet we could even swap just the tach if needed.

Gawd that was a nightmare.

After witnessing 2 BMW breakdowns on my block due to pulley/belt issues, (3 if you count Greg's fan explosion) I think I'm going to buy an extra set of belts to throw in the back for road trips. Seems like cheap insurance.

The odds of you breaking down that close to home after that many miles is crazy... :eyecrazy

I broke down THREE times on my trip to CA/AZ and back... New Mexico on way out had to replace fuel pump on a Saturday in Alberquirque, the Mohave incident and the on the way home I had a rear blowout just west of Oklahoma City!

I'm not sure how many different parts the 330i rear swap included and if it's all compatible enough to put E36 rotors/pads/calipers back on it.

Think he just dont like that he has to get low profile snow tires.

I bet it works great to stop the massive tourqe that 1.8 puts out.
