In VA you can go to the dmv and get a temporary transport permit or whatever they call it. Not sure if MD has the same thing.

Or he can do what I did when I bought my car in Colorado and just drive it back without tags.

His concern, not yours. Just do NOT let him drive away with your tags.

Thank guys, taking the rear tag off right now....
He shouldn't have an issue if he has the tag and bill of sale in hand

What is he going to use for tags? Be sure he knows that he can't use yours.

When I bought my E30 from a chapter member in VA, he let me use his tags to get the car inspected and until it was registered. The previous owner of my ti also let me use his tags. But I knew him for years.

It really is his problem.
Don't forget the title. It doesn't have to be notorized, does it?

Tell him to bring his tags to drive back with temporarily :P I think the penalty for driving with the wrong tags is worse than the penalty for driving with no tags.

There really is no good way to do this out of state.

I bought a car from NJ and a police officer hassled me about the wrong tags on my new car. I gave him the bill of sale and the title and said that these are the tags that are being transferred to the car and that is what I was at the MVA to do.

He asked how I drove the car back from NJ. I said with these tags. He replied, "There are no tow trucks in New Jersey?"

:fingerboi

Maryland makes it such a pain in the ass to register a car and so easy once it is registered. :dunno

Here's the way it works. He need to bring his own temp tags. I bought a car from NJ and I had to get temp tags for the vehicle from MVA before driving it home. I hope it's not to late....again, he need s some info from you to get the tags..VIN, etc, but that's tricky if you dont have the cash.
