Has anyone moved to HI with an animal recently? I know they need to be quarantined :( but I have heard anything from 2 weeks to several months. Any idea where I could get some real answers on this? Sadly, more than anything this would be a serious consideration for me, not sure I could move there (or anywhere) and live without my dog for months

We took care of everything in CA and then did a direct release at the airport, no quarantine. Just make sure that all of your paperwork is in flawless order before you fly them out.

I read through what was posted and it seems pretty painless so long as you are prepared which was a huge relief for me. I will print everything and bring it to my vet to go through it all and make sure we are covered....broke the news to mom today...she was less not as excited as I am :(

The key to having your pet released without quarrentine is to have the blood work for rabies done 6 months out also you have to ensure he is chipped and shots are up to date. The 6 months for the blood work starts after you get the results back from the lab. I was shy by 3 days for the 6 months and it cost me $225 for each dog to have them there for 3 days. Also ensure you fax the paperwork to the state office before you arrive and call them to make sure they recieved it and all is in order. If you get on the island late you wont be able to get your pet till the next day so ensure your flight arrives before 3PM. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.
