Could someone replace the spokes in the wheels with Double spoke II's? Make sure to leave the lips on the wheels. I am thinking about having a couple of double spoke II wheels widened to fit the custom rear of my newly aquired M3.

They are 17 inch HM2 knock-off's.
I think they are OK but I just think it would be cool to have stock wheel set that has obviously been modified.
Just imagine the confused looks when people would see a 17 X 11 inch Double spoke II on the back of the car.

it's too bad they wouldn't have such a sweet lip. don't they cut in the center and weld in a hoop? so it would be wide but not have such a wide lip, right?

Yeah it would and I have located a place that can do it. In fact, due to the factory offset of 41MM, the lip would end up being bigger than the one on the "Hammans".
In order to accomplish what I want to do, the entire outer rimshell would have to be machined off and a new 17x11 aluminum hoop would be machined and installed on the center of the wheel spoke section.
The downside of all this is the fact that the "new" wheel will not look exactly like the front wheel at the profile of the rimshell(hoop) where it attaches to the center.
The new 17x11 outer hoop is $215.00 per wheel, the labor to machine, set the hoop, true and weld is $260.00 each wheel.
Total $475.00 each wheel plus shipping.
$950 to modify a pair of stock wheels? I don't think so!:nono

slowbmw, what size rims are those on the e36? 16 inch? just curious
i personally would go with widened DSI's, but maybe i'm biased
and it sounds like this widening process could make the wheel weak.
