I just bought an 2003 E39. It has the security system. There is a little black sensor looking thing at the end of a wire in the middle of the dashboard, towark the windshieild. It is missing its cover and has some exposed wires.

the wires come up between the forward and main part of the dash cover.

does anyone know what this is? I just stuffed it down in the crack.

most ALL e39's dont have it, it would be the solar sensor for the IHKA to determine Y-Factors and adjust Blower Speeds. when your IHKA is set to AUTO

I was way off then, I assumed it was security related. How are they supposed to be mounted? I am guessing the missing cover has little tabs that stuff down in the slot in the dash????????????
