So I am the latest victim of MD state funding program. Got "clocked" doing 72 in a 55 on 29 near 100. Funny thing is that I was on cruise control, and it was certainly under 70. I saw the bacon and simply took cruise control off and coasted, slowing down using the engine, figured I was definitely within the 10mph over area. Needless to say I was surprised. Had about 7 cars pulled over already at the time, I heard them saying that the two guys behind me were doing 77 and 78. Anyway, I never had any tickets in my 8 years of driving, the bacon told me to show up in court to keep my record clean. Honestly I don't even know what that means, how are points determined? The ticket says $80 on it. Experienced bacon fighters please chime in on what I should do :shifty

EDIT: best 1k posts celebratory post EVAR!

they always clock people with laser on 100 under some bridge RIGHT as you come out of the turn :(

and the only good thing about having escort/V1 is that it tells you EXACTLY when you're getting pulled over and when you need to get out that vaseline jar :(

29 is notorious. They had one speed camera set up after one over-pass. I wanna say right after 32. You couldn't see it until it was too late. :( .

i sent in my ticket within 15 days, but i have yet to see a notice of me having to go to court. i'm gonna plead guilty with an explanation. i wonder how points will work on my license, when mississippi doesn't even do points....

Do I have to send in the ticket or can I just wait until court date? Basically if the cop doesn't show up and you already mailed in that you you're guilty with explanation, whats the deal?

Well to answer the question, points are assesed as follows.
1 to 9 over =1 pt
10-29 over =2 pts
...
100+ =5 pts ask me how I know...

If your record is clean, go to court and plead guilty with an explanation. Usually you can get a probation before judgment. No points, no record, pay the fine and court costs. Sometimes it is a gamble you have to sit and watch how the judge is operating that day. some are hard asses, some not. Try not to call the officer a pig or bacon, it tends to piss them off even more.

on the ticket it said "mail in within 15 days" so i went ahead and did that.

a few months ago i got a ticket in memphis and i didnt mail it in within 15 days. a $40 fine turned into a $140 fine because of my mistake :mad

read the instructions on the back of the ticket and it instructs what you should do about pleading guilty w/ explanation.

Always go to court. Least that way you have a chance of getting off. It's not going to be any worse by going to court.

NEVER, NEVER EVER plead guilty on the ticket. With an explanation or not. ALWAYS plead NOT guilty, or just request a court date. When I got my ticket I didn't have to do anything, the clerk of the court sent me a date.

I'll look at it tonight again when I get home but I thought it said on the back that it must be mailed in :confused

Always go to court. THe worst that can happen is you get the same thing you would have had you paid the ticket. Go to court and the judge will prolly give you a break because of your clean record. If he gives you a PBJ then you wont get any points unless you get another ticket within 18 months. Also you shouldnt have to mail anything in, they usually just send the court date info in the mail if you odnt pay the ticket. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Well, that's wrong. A PBJ doesn't work that way. Once you have it, it's done. They can't come back and hit you with it later. If you get another ticket, the judge won't give you any slack, but they can't revisit the old charge.

My bad, I had used a few different lawyers in MD and thought that is what they said. SO if you get a PBJ then its done. Good to know, you learn something new everyday:) .

a PBJ goes on record with no effect. It doesnt even show the violation it just say "case closed. sentence PBJ"
it means nothing does nothing but it is a BIG asterisks****** when the judge pulls your driving record
Meaning you might not get as much slack NEXT time.
They cant go back on it UNLESS your PBJ comes with 3 years unsupervised probation which some judges can strike on you even if you get a PBJ. I am currently on. If you break that diving probation then they can reactivate the current points and or fines from that PBJ on top off the NEW. Judge Hatchman in Carroll county loves doing this!!As i know 3 people who have PBJ with 3 years unsupervised probation.
BUT i have seen that a PBJ in 1 county doesnt show up in another county court system. only actually violation and fines etc..
Atleast carroll county doesnt show other counties PBJ's

dood.

in MD, by sending in the ticket you are admitting guilt.....or maybe that's if you send ticket + $$

to get a court date, you just don't send the ticket.

did you send teh $$?

fuck noesss

there were 3 options. plead not guilty, plead guilty, & plead guilty w/ explanation.

i chose the latter and sent NO money in. i am waiting for them to send me back a court date so i can go to the judge and plead for his mercy so he spares me points & save me some dough on the ticket....... although i dont even know if they would transfer to my MS license :rofl

He knows because I've also had a few tickets in MD over the years and Mont., Fred., and Tows. all seem to operate similarly re clean records. Just be humble and apologetic.

ok, i got teh letter from the court about my summons....

i'm gonna have a hearing on 8/16 @ 10am in ellicott city. yay.

it says if i choose not to contest the charges, i may pay the total fine of $80 and not appear for the trial. thats pretty cheap considering the speeding tickets i have paid in other states. 72 in 55 for $80, not too bad :rofl

i think i will go to the hearing and plead guilty w/ explanation. maybe the judge will reduce the price & knock off the points.....

ok, went to court today, had a female judge with cornrows. she was real cool & lenient.

i just listened to what other people said and when it was my turn i stated i was guilty, told the judge i have no points on my license (which i'm not 100% sure on :rofl) and that i have no probation. she gave me the same leniency as others in the courtroom and reduced my fine in half and i am now on probation (not sure how long though...).

fees:
$80 ticket reduced to $40. court fees of $25.50. subtotal of $65.50. AND THEN, its like they punish you for using a credit card as they charge $8 for credit card fee. so a final total of $73.50.

here's something to remember; when you go down court house drive, the district court is not technically on court house, it is actually down Martha Bush Drive. so when you go down rogers ave (which turns into court house), remember to take a left onto Martha Bush and its the 1st building on the right. if you have a camera cell phone, leave it in the car.

that blows that you had to pay court fees

not the only question - why didn't you just pay the fine? was there a point on your license if you wouldn't have come to court?

always go to court b/c there is a possibility that your fines can/will be reduced as shown today.....

and another reason to go to court, if its a 1st offense, you can get probation and not have to deal with points as long as you dont get any other violations within a certain time frame.

if i hadn't gone to court, i would've paid $80 and had 2 pts on my record i think....
