Hello all,
Just finished servicing the 5'er. New brake pads all around(Axxis Deluxe), new plugs (NGKBKR6EQUP), oil and filter(Castrol Syn 5-30), new valve cover gaskets (installed at dealer), emergency brake adjustment, front suspension inspection (ball joints, thrust arm bushings, sway bar end links, etc.), wiper blades, state inspection, everything on this beast works and/or performs as it should.
Car needs nothing and is ready to go!
Thanks!
Sloloco 07-30-2006, 03:34 PM Man I really did get a steal on my car!
zipnz 11-01-2006, 11:34 AM Bump For New Price...
zipnz 12-08-2006, 01:26 PM bump :)
Htownmobaudio 12-08-2006, 01:35 PM nice car .. gl on sale
MontanaRob 12-08-2006, 03:02 PM nice car!....what happened to your intake air temp sensor?
zipnz 12-08-2006, 03:55 PM Not sure what you're talking about regarding the IAT sensor. This is a bone stock, unmodified car. No warning lights, error codes, nothing...Everything works as it should.
cheers!
MontanaRob 12-08-2006, 04:18 PM If you look at your last pic, there is a hole on the front side of the intake airbox that houses the air filter (directly behing your passenger headlights). I'm pretty sure that hole should house a wire harness with a temp probe that snaps into the airbox. Are you having any performance or idle problems? This may be the source.
zipnz 12-08-2006, 04:37 PM I see exactly what you're talking about. Even though I have had no issues with the car or its performance, I went outside and checked this out anyway. This is what I found:
1. I do see the "recepticle" that would appear to hold a sensor. However there is absolutely no opening into the airbox whatsoever. When I looked on the inside of the box, there are a series of ribs along the inside even where you would think a opening might be. To clarify, it's not blocked off (the opening) was never there.
2. I looked at all of the wiring and harnesses close to the box, everything is connected and in place as it should be.
3. Car idles smooth as glass and runs like a scalded dog.:redspot
4. Possibly the same box was used for other models requiring a sensor in that location.
MontanaRob 12-09-2006, 01:00 PM Yeah could be difference in model year I guess. Maybe repositioned it somewhere. Also I think your models have water cooled alternators where as the 98s are air cooled. Slight differences in the E39s.
I think you also have throttle by wire and no Idle Control Valve like the earlier E39s, and a different throttle body. Could have something to do with intake temp sensor not in same spot.
Sorry for the false alarm! Anyway, smooth ride good luck with the sale!
M5.4.LyF 12-09-2006, 01:17 PM In my opinion,
your price sucks.
Adjust it and I'm sure you might find a buyer....maybe even me!:)
GL !!
zipnz 12-10-2006, 05:02 PM Apparently, you have far greater knowledge of the used BMW market that I do. What would you consider to be a fair price? In a sense, if the posted price were a steal, the car would be gone already. However, if you're eluding to the 14-16k range, forget it. Any stelaership in town would give that much in trade. Been there, done that.
cheers.
John 540i6 12-10-2006, 09:57 PM the intake air temp sensor is relocated into the MAF on all 99+ 540s. On the 97-98 models, it is in the front of the airbox.
That is a damn good price imo.

IanBMW 12-14-2006, 06:40 PM Average Retail on Nada (you know what the bank will give you) is $23,500. So I think the price is VERY reasonable. Personally I'd rather have a manual. But this would be the perfect option for someone who always wanted a M5, but needed a automatic. GL with sale.
zipnz 12-14-2006, 06:41 PM is that an offer? :D
thanks for the support Ian!
matteni 12-14-2006, 10:31 PM I paid $14k for my 2000 540i with sports package but have put EASILY $6k in deferred maintenance, new tires, cosmetic upgrades, etc. When you add it all up this IS a very good deal. For me I can expense gas/maintenance but not the purchase price with my business so it made sense to put some extra $$ and I like to mod the car myself but for others this would be high on my list.

Well, My friend and I privately buy and sell cars mostly of German or Japanese make. So I do know some.
I said your price sucks because if you look around your market you can find quite a few for under that price. I just think you will have a hard time selling it for 19K w/ 91k mi on it.
I'll try to provide some links I found on this.
But, good luck dude.

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback. I want to make sure that you/we are comparing apples to apples here. From what I have read, a 540 M-Sport has many more differences than a 540 or a 540 w/ "sport" option. This goes beyond the obvious cosmetic differences, but, (and feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken) the suspension, transmission(gearing perhaps?), differential gears, etc. are particular to this option. I'm certainally no expert, but this is what I understood about the car. Don't get me wrong, I love all 540's. But not all were created equal(options, colors, etc.), thus the differences in value-wether perceived or real.
