i've noticed that the size opening for our stereos is larger than a single din, quite possibly a din and a half. does anyone know of any kits offering a din and a half opening? if so where can i get one? i really dont feel lke fiberglassing a custom one.

you might want to check out item #6 from the online parts database. In Europe...the e39 can use the BMW Traffic Pro in-dash navigation unit (which is single DIN in size)...so there is a retrofit "radio frame" insert that allows one to mount the single DIN TrafficPro/Nav unit in the dash.

It is a legitimate BMW part nbr...that is on the Euro side of the BMW ETK parts CD...and any BMW dealer should be able to order it.

you can get some on ebay..also get the harness as well.. i got mine both for $20... its worth it..
