I placed the first deposit for M Coupe at my dealer 04/05/06. I'm first in line to get one. Seventeen weeks later my dealer still hasn't recieved a production alotment ...so I haven't even speced the thing out yet! What's going on at Zentum SC? Did I just get in really early? Is this normal for new models? Are these things just trickling out? I've heard a rumor of a slowdown. Anybody know of anything?

First of all the factory is in Spartanburg/Greer. Zentrum is the name of the BMW museum. I placed my order at the same time as you. I was the first allocation. I got the car three weeks ago today. I speced it out when I ordered it and then added navigation a week or two later. the car was made in June, Vin ends with LL93217. I was supposed to pick it up 23rd of June, but I wasn't available. I took delivery 6th July. I currently have 1450 miles on it and its a blast. Its well worth the wait.
So far 1650 coupes have been made, and I'm not sure how many of those are M's though

Well your not the only one. I am in the same situation as you... put my deposit down over 2 months ago and still no production alotment! My brother and I are first in line at our dealership and they still can't even give us a general date of when our cars are going to arrive. Really at this point I am starting to get alittle mad at BMW NA... I think that by now they should be able to at least give us a date as to when our cars are to be built. It is pretty annoying when you spend almost 60 grand on a car, in our case double that since we bought 2, and you just have to wait month to month until you name is called!

I've been looking at that page daily and they did not post any numbers for the first two weeks of July, which makes me wonder if plant WAS shut down to re-tool for X5 production.
There's also a rumour that all August production slots are now pushed back to September to accomodate for the new X5 ramp up. All production capabilities are going to be shuffled to build the new X5 for a month.

Esp. now that they are on one production line, the X5 theory seems more likely.

Well it's more than rumor - the change in production has been known for awhile. See their bulletin.

Important
Subject: August 2006 Allocation #1 for X5 and Z4
The first August Allocation will be available for modification on June 14th. This allocation will only contain the X5’s and Z4’s. The volumes are low due to the E53 build-out and E85 production capacity. There will not be any E86’s allocated for this production month due to capacity restrictions.
Model Flexibility has been deactivated for the X5’s to reduce costs for the 2006MY build-out. Also, the factory will place a modification block on the X5’s for color, upholstery and options on July 28th.
The second August Allocation will be available to modify on June30th. This allocation will also contain low volumes due to the factory holiday schedule.
Sincerely,
National Automotive Sales

This is not abnormal at all. I tried to bring one from another dealership couple of weeks ago and at that time there were only 16 models in the U.S. There are currently only 13 or 14 z4 M coupe's available in the USA. I know this because I have access to the BMW dealer's internal database. I requested a car transfer from another dealership and it is turning out to be very difficult. Seems like no dealership wants to transfer their one and only M coupe to another, but with a little bit of back scratching things happen. Just hang in there bud....

Don't waste your time trying to get an available M Coupe from another dealer through your dealer. They absolutely won't do it.
I didn't want to push it because my dealer has been good to me on service/warranty issues with my E46 M3 and I want to continue to enjoy that relationship. Also, wasn't interior color I really want and an option I don't really need (nav).
