highboostingm3 07-27-2006, 03:17 PM damn I want to see all the pics... link (http://www.imageshack.us/) is your friend! :wave
Any spec sheet on this car telling us what is done to engine, drivetrain, turbo size, fuel, other goodies...
Captain 07-27-2006, 03:19 PM yes more info please
bmwperson 07-27-2006, 03:24 PM IE ram usage 100m ;) looks good tho but enable directory listing

multiplex 07-27-2006, 03:45 PM solid tranny and engine mounts?
Thats half of my dream car right there. I want an e30 M3 with s52 and twin screw. I am  over that! Nice ride!

yeah, server is running a bit slow now. Perhaps I should move photo hosting elsewhere. :dunno
the engine is a S52B32. Stock except for the lowering of the compression via a head gasket spacer. Turbo specs I don't have in front of me (its what the customer brought to me to use), but relatively big. It appears to have a stage V turbine wheel. The 3 inch V band doesn't neck down much into the turbine housing... so its big. It appears to have a T04S compressor cover on it. (or something around that size.)
The engine wiring harness is an OBD-I harness. So we'll run/tune this with a stock OBD-I ECU in it. Initial tune is going to be very conservative. I don't want it to make anything over 400 to the wheels on its low boost tune. I'd prefer mid to low 300's really for getting the car rolling on the road again. We're starting with 42 lb/hr injectors for this reason.
The exhaust is all stainless. 3 inches from the turbo all the way back with a single high flow 5 inch metal core cat and a single 3 inch in dual 2.5 inch out magnaflow at the back. V bands are a wonderful thing, btw. :)
The shell is an E30 M3. Its mostly stock at the moment. It won't be that way forever though obviously.
The challenge has been making it all fit in that car. S52 into that shell is relatively straightforward (though its obvious that that shell was never designed for a motor of that shape/size). Just need to watch for clearance to the brake booster. The usual strategy is to lean the motor over slightly to the passenger side for clearance. This isn't condusive to mounting the turbocharger there though. Especially with such a large turbo. So it was a fight between clearance between the turbo and the subframe, and between the intake manifold and the brake booster.
The engine went up slightly in the car and back to the stock tilt angle and room was found. At least for the turbo. The 3" downpipe has a couple of millimeters of clearance to the firewall and to the transmission. Some massaging with a hammer and a bit of heat shield will be requied there.
Most of these projects are just fun packaging exercises moreso than major engineering challenges. The problem with that is sometimes you get too creative... and thats how you end up with things like bbaz's charge pipe routing. ;)

Beautiful :)
dredder 07-27-2006, 05:35 PM And they said we couldnt tune with stock ecu unless we go to AA or whomever provides ecu tuning :confused

I guess I better stop then :stickoutt
Eric BMW 07-27-2006, 06:03 PM Man your struggle with room makes me appreciate Adreas car so much more.

LOL, that's my plan and I'm partially there. Just bought an e30 M3 less than a month ago and planning on doing the swap. Hopefully, when I get to the FI point Stage II Eurosport or Stage III AA will be out.
