View Full Version : SHOULD I cancel my order on an 06 330i sedan? HELP!
BMWoo 07-23-2006, 08:52 PM Hello, I pretty much all but signed on the dotted line for a very well equipped 330i sedan (prem/sport/nav), and JUST found out that it's really a "one-year" car on the E90. Is this a bad thing for the 06 330i that the 07's will be 328i and 335i? I'm practically jaw-dropped by this car, would love to get it. I've heard that the 335i sticker will be much higher, and the options/packages will be higher as well (in the quick peek I got, I'm thinking the 335i with the same options will be about 5 grand more). The 328i is obviously a little "less" than the 330i, albeit newer.
Do you think that the "one year" deal of the 330i is a good or bad thing? HELP please!
EricP 07-23-2006, 09:27 PM If you think $5,000 more and a longer wait is worth it, then wait. If you love the 330i and the price is right, stick with it!

To be honest, I don't want to wait, and I didn't really set out to spend 40k+ on a car in the first place... but after checking out a long list of cars, the BMW was just the best of the bunch (and the priciest). I'm just worried about the fact that the 330i in this body will exist for a year, and that's it. Is that common?

I think so, cause they e46 328 where only there for 2 years
99 and 00.
So, might be in the same case as the E90 330.

I brought that exact concern up to a dealer this past weekend... wait for the 328/335 or order one of the last 325/330. I compared it to the "hit" the 323/328 took in resale value and the dealer showed me current auction prices for the 323/328 and 325/330. The difference was approx 1500 - 2000. Since the body style will be similar, minus a tweak here and there, you should be ok. As the dealer put it, the bottom line is that it will still be an e90. From what the dealer was saying, I don't think it is a bad thing or that it will matter.
Note, the dealer wasn't making any money off of me that day. He knew I was pricing things out and not close to buying or ordering. If he wanted to make money, he'd be pushing me to wait for the new car so he can make more comission off a higher selling car. He also knew I was shopping more than just that dealer.
jdouville 08-09-2006, 04:22 PM Just heard from dealer that MSRP on the 07 335i is up $2,100 over 06 330i. 07 328i MSRP is up $1,500.

Do you think that the "one year" deal of the 330i is a good or bad thing? HELP please! You're getting the Coupe and the Sedans mixed up. The 330i sedans will remain as they are. The 328i and 335i monikers are for the coupe only. Stick with your order.
cafge1 08-13-2006, 08:11 PM I have a 2007 328xi on order.

I was waiting for someone to say this, the OP almost had me believing what he was saying. 325/330 = 4 doors, 328/335 = 2 doors, no body style change next year for the 325/330.
windnsea00 08-15-2006, 02:18 PM People already have Euro Delivery's lined up this fall for the E90 328i/335i, check over at bimmerfest.com. BMW wouldn't use different engines for its sedan and coupes for the US. For $2k more I would get a 335i over a 330i in a second! If you do euro delivery you can cut the price down by $3k or so!

Apparently BMW is not allowing orders (production has stopped). The 2007 325i and 330i sedans will be the 328i and 335i sedans--just like the coupe versions' power plants. Damn...
HapaJin 08-21-2006, 07:17 AM What do they plan on doing with that new engine in the 330 then? Just leave it to the 1 series? Or maybe replace the 328 with he 330 after a couple of years?

I think it's the 3.0 in the 530. And perhaps the X3 3.0 as well.

JMG703 08-25-2006, 03:50 PM will the 335i sedan share the real light design on the coups? If so they will be hot.
yeaaa05 08-29-2006, 03:09 AM 335i ftw... might as well wait cause you dont want to regret that a yea from now
Last E46 M3 08-30-2006, 11:59 AM 335i ftw... might as well wait cause you dont want to regret that a yea from now
but it's a first year car tho...
thats what's holding me back from waiting for E92 M3 or get E46 M3 regardless of price difference.
i am sure that there will be recalls and etc. but personally, i dont wanna deal with those. only because it's a brand new car and i think tearing up the new car for any reason is kinda bad. so quick question for those w/ first year car owners...
did you encounter any problems such as noises you hear from the parts you've replaced due to recall?
Sweetride01 08-31-2006, 02:15 PM This really pisses me off. My dad just got a 330i with Premium package for $582/mo, 36 mo, 12K/yr. He could have had a sport as well for $599/mo, but he hated the sport seats. So now we are stuck with the boring wheels and REALLY annoying Continental run flats that squirm all over the place. The car is really nice to drive, you can set almost any of the car's features to your preference, and the engine has a torquey low and midrange. So I quite like the car. But here's what annoys me most:
1. The wheels/tires.
2. First gear, and the engine's high rev characteristics. It feels almost as if the torque converter is unlocked through all of first gear (2nd feels faster), and there is almost a 1 second delay in power delivery when you floor it from a stop!!!!! Our TL-S takes off right away!!! Also, the engine really seems to start wheezing above 5500rpm. This is exacerbated by the fact that the tranny doesn't shift 'till 7K. It feels like the engine has potential that needs to be unlocked with better breathing, but this is a lease car! Has anyone tried the K&N filter?
windnsea00 08-31-2006, 04:40 PM Take out the charcoal filter by the air filter, it's a US only thing I believe.

Should be real easy, right? WhyTF would there be a charcoal filter right after the air filter?
thedude 09-01-2006, 09:17 PM The engine does have potential that can be unocked, but its not the breathing. Its the automatic tranny. All those problems you have with the car are tranny related.

How long do you plan to keep the car? If you plan to sell it while e90's are still being produced, just buy the 330i. If you plan to keep it 5-7 years or more, wait for the 335i. The early 330i model will be less desireable by the mid-end of the model run, when the streets are littered with 335i's.
bwbigdog1 09-18-2006, 12:00 PM To the question of to buy or not to buy the 330i. I have a 2006 330i and switched from a Lexus. I love the car looks and its driveability. If you are always looking for the next best car or look, you will always be looking. Just do it as they say.
wecoyote 09-19-2006, 09:56 PM I pretty much had the same dilemma but went with the 330i cause the 335 while much faster was also much more expensive - I figured close to 5K more by the time it was optioned out the same - if I waited for 07 I would have probably gone with the 328 but would have lost out on the Logic 7, and xenon's. As it is I got a sweet deal on a 06 330 with premium, auto, sport in the colors I wanted - hard to argue with that
e36uk 09-20-2006, 05:27 PM Take out the charcoal filter by the air filter, it's a US only thing I believe.
The charcoal canister traps the fumes escaping from the gas tank, it doesn't affect the performance in any way!

335i FTW. And the 3 month wait is short compared to the 36 months of ownership.
but if the 335i is above your budget, use the "one year" angle to re-negotiate a better price on the 06.
josh256 09-20-2006, 06:47 PM Had a 330i before the M3.. The decision should pretty much boil down to sports enthuisiasm.
EG. If you've ever enjoyed driving a 5s car -or appreciate the track-feel of the M- *definately* get the 335i. The difference far outweighs the $5K gap.
sexy325 09-21-2006, 01:57 PM I would definitely wait for a bit longer to have that twin-turbo.
mose121 12-23-2006, 03:27 AM 330 is still bad ass. Just negotiate a better deal since it's now slightly outdated.
