Sure enough, i have a fresh nail in my rear tire. I lose about 5 psi per night. should i keep filling it up every 1-2 days, or get it plugged until i get a new tire? my friend said to never get a tire plugged. What are your opinions?

What kind of tire is it? If it is a Z Rated tire, or RFT which I doubt on your 96 328i, then you cannot not have it patch/plugged.

Where is the nail located as well?

Other option would be replacing the tire.

its a normal, all season tire. its in at an angle between the wheel wall and the treads.
I will hopefully be replacing it within the month or so.
Only reason i ask is that my friend told me to never plug a tire. he said sometimes on roads like 66, they heatup and pop out. i dont know if hes a bunch of bullshit, or if hes right.

also, its nice to see someone from VA whos headlights look exactly like mine

It has to be determined by the person that will patch it for you. Note I said patch, and not plug. Plugging is bad, patching is good. I have patched my track tires before and they did very well.

^ I agree. Take it to a reputable tire shop, if they can do it, they will do it and they will know how to do it right (patching with a tail).

Actually the plug and patch system is the best. Any local tire store can handle it. You just have to be carefull how far out near the shoulder the nail is.
If I can help let me know.

Why is plugging bad?

I had a nail about an inch over from the shoulder of some brand new SPTs. I plugged it as the tire shop didn't want to take off the tire to see where the nail was . . . . 3K miles later still fine. . . :help

In my Jeep, I got a screw stuck at an angle between the wall and the tread as well, and my local tire shop said they couldn't patch it because a patch wont hold on that part of the tire. That really sucked considering I had less than 5k on that tire.

turns out it was far enough to the tread to plug it. im getting new wheels soon so im not gonna sweat it. ive just heard stories of plugs popping out on hot, high speed days

Haven't we told you to patch it?

yeah, told my dad that, while i was at work he took it in and sure enough got a plug. dont care too much considering i should have new wheels within the next few week. but what really pisses me off is that my dad pulled into the garage too far and put a f*cking gash on my hood.

That's what you get when you do what you don't have to do to your bimmer. We told you to get it patched. I know next time you will :stickoutt

I told him to get it patched and not plugged. I did listen, the padre on the other hand didn't.

I've had good luck with regular old plugs in the past. While I wouldn't drive 120 on a plugged tire or go out for a track day I really wouldn't sweat it.

So it was your dad fault... Now I get why he screwed up the hood.

Yes. He better pay for it to get resprayed....because he put touchup paint on it and it looks terrible

I bet it looks like "mierda" lol

Touch up paint never worked for me. Well, a body shop did a very small respray on my bumper and it looked great, there was a 0.5"x1" area of missing paint and after they "touched it up" I couldn't find where it was anymore.

hm, so i dont need to get my whole hood resprayed, just that section?

Don't count on that, you will need to find a paint guy that's almost an artist like the one that did the touch up in my bumper.
