do the pulleys gain any hp without compromising reliability or not? Preferably would like someone who has bought them to chime in but this part of the forum isnt too active so ill take any information possible! TIA

driving school is the best thing you can do to an M3, minus a supercharger.

I have the pullies and did a write up on it. I think the thread is under VPD pullies. I like them and the butt dyno felt a little more kick and less hesitation. Also they help in gas mileage. I think with all my mods now at 80mph I average 27mpg

lol, gotta love the ass dyno...what are your other mods if you dont mind me asking? Just got my m3 and trying to plan out what i want to do to her (by plan i mean save since everything costs either an arm or a leg or both lol)

also i noticed you only did water pump/power steering pullies...is it bad to do the alt one? or did you have aftermarket stereo or something?

I used to have an aftermarket stereo and because I have a radar detector and cell phone charger and what not I didnt think it would be a good idea for the 3rd pulley. I have AA chip, catback exhaust with borla mufflers, K&N intake, and of course the pullies.

pullies are always an affordable way to help free up a little bit of power out of the motor, most people wont underdrive their alternator pulley just because of the fact it's the alternator and they're concerned about not having enough electrical power for the car, or possibly damaging any electrical components. In all honesty unless you have a competition stereo it should'nt be a problem. If you're in the market for a kit we've got one the for E46 M3 for $250 plus tax and or shipping- the pullies being underdriven are the power steering, water pump, and alternator- :)

i got one too. you get a bit more torque down low.

i gun it all the time so my MPG is still crap. 16.5 FTW.

and like 90pct city driving.

have any of you noticed any overheating problems due to the water pump pulley

nope.

there have been no negative effects ive noticed. i got them installed march 06. i get better throttle expense and feel more torque on the low end, but other than that the rides the same. the gas mileage is equally crappy, but thats more to do with the fact that i ALWAYS drive on either S5 or S6 DSC off, with sport mode and sometime the track button on S5, and that i do the vast majority of my driving in the city.

So is you car over heating? I've never heard of a car over heating from the water pump pulley... hmmm. Do you happen to have a leak somewhere? If i were you I'd add redline water wetter to the radiator fluid. It actually makes a noticable difference, especially when it's warm outside and the car has completely warmed up. I think it's like $8-12 a bottle, it's worth every penny. Try that out and let me know if you still have a problem.

Definitely no overheating over here. I personally beat the shit out of my car and track it and still have never even seen the water temp go outside the second dot on the water temp guage

Oh haha, sorry about that. However yes they're just rumors like i had previously mentioned I've never encountered someone that incurred a problem from using the pulley kit. You'll like it, as the other memeber mentioned it gives you some more torque and the car just feels a little bit more spirited, nothing insane, but enough to feel it you know. For a couple hundred bucks, you can't go wrong with them.
