I'm about to buy some CSL reps. They'll be wrapped in 225/40/18 tires. I need help deciding which brand. My budget is $500 or less and I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Dunlop Direzza's, Dunlop FM901's and Khumo MX's. They all seem to have similar specs and are closely priced. Does anyone have pics of these tires on their CSL's? I've searched, but all I can seem to find are photochops. Up close pics would be great.

Any reason I should choose any one of the above tires over the others?

I've pretty much decided on the size, now I want the best "look."

Pics of other CSL's with 225/40/18 tires are welcomed as well!

I used to have the Dunlop Sport 2000's and they were grippy enough, but they wore out VERY FAST

Hey Karl, I ran Fm901's on a Passat and thought they were a good tire for the $$. In fact they are on a GTI today at the track. My friend thought they were much better than the Azenis that he had before. My 2 cents worth. Eric

I did some research a couple weeks ago because I was going to get a 17" Dunlop set and I found a lot of negative comments, a lot more than what you usually found on anything else.

I am putting on my second set of Dunlop FM901's. This is my 3rd set of Dunlops and I have no complaints.

If you search around, there are many complaints that they do not last. This was also my experience.

They did have good grip, but they wore out much to fast.

Kumho MX's? Hankook Z212? They dont and they stick better

I have the fm901's and like them. They've held up to 1 track day and do good on the street. They aren't grippy enough for autoX, but I liked them alot on the race track. I think they are wearing great for such a 200 tread wear rating tire.

FM901s are one of the loudest tires and they wear badly/uneven and the grip is not what it should be for the crazy tread design they have....

I have had experience with 2 sets of Mx's and i recommend those over any set of Dunlop's. They grip decent 8/10 or so i'd say, and mine lasted 13-15K miles.

I currently run BGF g-force kdw2's but thats a bit higher on the price range...but oh so worth it, best gripping tire i've had on any car.

i'd stay away from the dunlops... i have the sport 5000's right now and i've had a blowout and 2 flats... and they are wearing down very fast. they have good grip but i am very unhappy and need to get new tires already after a year

Only had them about 800 miles now.... they are great so far... for treadlife though, my brother has them on his a4 1.8t and they have lasted him quite a long time....and the tread rating is 300 compared to the Mx's 220... so i think they should last a while :)

the bfgs are a sick tire alot of guys that have preludes run these i do on my lude aslo i also run the hancook tires on my lude an have had great results but only when it is dry out get them wet and they are a full slip and slide tire

Get dunlop SSRs. They will blow away the MXs and you can get them in 225/40/18 as cheap as $160 for a pair.

I second the FM901. Had a set of 225's on a Z3, the traction was amazing. Also it had very predictable turn in, and handled a heated run well. And this is coming from someone who had BFG's best, and they weren't all that.
