The photos of our 1,800 mile journey are posted on my web site. This was to Road America for the Brian Redman International Challenge, the 40th anniversary of Can Am racing.

Link to Pics (http://www.my2002tii.com/2006/july2006/index.htm)

Bo Black's car won 1st place in the Road Car Concours. There were thousands of people at the show and we had a hard time keeping up with all the people asking questions and saying nice things about the cars. The Concours was sponsored by Road & Track magazine, and it was unbelievable the cars there.

There was one 2002 race car there... a mysterious model "F" :D

Well lots of photos there to look at - 100s of vintage race cars. I think that event is like Sturgis if you are a vintage race car person.

Enjoy!

Sounds like a fun time Keith.

Any specs of the M10 motors?

As far as the engines go, nothing I can quote. This particular car:

http://www.my2002tii.com/view/brcra2006/images/DSCF5206.JPG

was a really nice Lotus 23 with the M10 engine sitting vertically. Owner was from CA, engine built by Jeff Ireland. Says it has a flat torque curve, 318 or better cam, billet rockers, 8,500 RPM shift point. When you're driving a go kart with an M10 engine, you probably enjoy 200hp or so.

This has a dry sump system with oil running thru the lower half of the frame, and the water running thru the upper half of it. In the shot below, you can see the bung and temp sender on the frame itself.

Lots and lots of cool vintage cars, engineering and people.

My all time favorite outrageous car I saw were the Cheetahs. Never seen one in person, I counted 5 of them at this event. They look like a Cobra on steroids, and they make a Viper look narrow in the front. I liked the decals on the side "Cheetahs Always Win". Massive tires all around. This particular one had a 427 big block rat motor with 4 Weber 48s. You should hear it and see it accelerate!

Thanks for the great pics, Keith!

Glad you're enjoying your '02 after all your hard work and dedication.

I'm sure that many heads turned when they saw your car and Bo's on the road. Two of my favorite '02's!

I'm sure Matt (vintage_car) could tell you - when we came into the Concours Saturday night to park our cars, it was like the parting of the Red Sea. There were hundreds of people staring at us and commenting as we drove about 1 block. It took about 5 mins to go one block because there was so many people packed into the streets to see the show and the cars. Ultimately, the editors of Road & Track who were in charge of the Concours are big 02 fans and never see them much anymore. I think we got some good press out of the exposure and a very warm reception to us being there. Keep in mind there were dozens of Porsche, Ferrari, Muscle Cars (vettes mostly), Panteras and other cars from the same time period that were passed over in favor of Bo's car. The judges kept doing figure 8s around our two cars as Skip told us just to give them a thorough inspection. Many other nice cars were kind of given the once over, so I think the 02's got the sentimental vote by Road & Track.

I totally lost count of the thumbs up, loyal fans of the '02 world who came to meet and see us, and of course there were as I recal 3 people who had seen the web site for years and heard we were coming so they came to see the ol girl in the flesh.

I did met Dave Redzus in person who happened to be there who gave my pump setup and engine the thumbs up on the implementation. Found out I have a V6 cone in my pump which was considered the best for the 74s. Also met Don Defthleson's body shop owner from Milwaukee who's done all the restoration steel work for Don for the last 25+ years. Nice people - I think I only met one person who seemed a bit "disturbed" that Bo and I had some how reaked carnage on our Tii's by eliminating the big bumpers. I told him I'd be glad to give somebody my set if I ever sell the car and they truly want them back on the car LOL!

Harry, I also averaged 30mpg for over 1,200 miles on the trip. One stretch was 36mpg and that's with a 3:91 LSD and driving about 3,800 RPM for long stretches at a time. About 11 cents a mile for gas ain't too shabby! I attribute a lot of it to the new pump, injectors and throttle body the engine has.

Keith, 30 mpg is great! Can't even dream of doing that with my car's 38/38.

On the big-bumper issue, I have also received only one comment by a guy saying that my car looked better with the big 'uns. He owns two roundies, so I guess that envy was part of it and he can't accept that the best looking '02's are squaries with short bumpers! LOL! (flame suit on, just in case)

Hopefully we'll see your cars on the R & T issue covering the event.

The Redman is an awesome event, and Elkhart is the perfect setting for it. I went in '04, and I have many of the same pics that you do.

Your slideshow is quite entertaining, as is your '02 website.

Great pictures mate... I have followed your build up and maiden voyage, even watched a video of your car through the hills with a few others... great effort!

I love your mates car too... What wheels does your mates car run? They look nice.

The 15" wheels were made by Compomotive in the '70s. The car they were on was nearly totalled in an accident. Several outsides of the 3 piece wheels were bent. Compomotive no longer has wheel halves that worked with this special Alpina looking center, so he had Kodiak Motorsport in Canada make the outer halves for all 4 wheels to match.

According to Compomotive, they only made about 5 sets of these wheels originally. They came from a car Ray Korman built in the 70s for an enthusiast.

The trip was well worth it just to see the "oh 2's" Meeting fellow board members from the 2002faq and from bimmerforums was great. Unfortunately I didn't bring my 02 to this event, but next year maybe I'll make the trek. If I could get anywhere near 30mpg I wouldn't think twice about it. The dual 40's are killing my gas mileage! I normally attend the Mid-Ohio vintage races and the runoffs. Since last year was the last year for the runoffs at mid-ohio, I decided to check out road america. It is a beautiful track, plenty of places to get awesome racing shots without the need for the photopass, and the atmosphere of vintage racing is like none other! Stella was looking great and Bo's car the exact same. The crowds there on both Friday and sat. night were incredible! Never been to a carshow where you couldn't move!

Thanks for the info... amazing just to know the history of these wheels! They look wonderful on the car, it is a shame another had to be sacrificed for the cause.

I suppose its best I dont invest too much time in looking for a set the same!
