that is a very unorthodox looking dyno pull. But impressive none the less. 4th gear pull I'm assuming.

Ignition a little jumpy but hit it with a lil 75 shot from 6000 and up:devillook
4th gear pull.

Hmm.. what does your car weigh? Were you running drag slicks when you ran your 12.6?

Run was with street tires 195/55/14 Toyo Proxes T1-S. Not sure what it weighs a good guess would be 2200lbs.

Cool. I would expect you to run MUCH fast times with that much power and that light of a car. That is why I was asking.

Impressive little car. Keep it up

Easy, boost it. The m10 loves boost and is virtually bullet proof if you run forged internals. Slap a racing snail on and have fun!

Btw, what size turbo are you updating to? I usually opt for Holset turbos for a lot of reasons, to many to go over right now.

well i cant do anything to my engine because my dad is always on my back about it not being able to pass smog..........how do you get around it

holdfastgreg
07-20-2006, 05:28 PM
We dont have to pass smog, thats how. Also, for my friends here that have to pass emissions, they keep their stock exhaust and put it on once a year to pass emisions. Turbo cars run clean so you dont have to worry about that affecting emissions. You just need to make sure the exhaust you use for emissions has a cat or 2 to filter gases. Then swap back to your performance exhaust after the test and repeat the next year.

you think if i put my rear muffler back on, they won't notice the side-exit exhaust? :D

good&tight, nice tire choice (T1-S :) ). it's cool that you pulled off a pretty good 60-foot time on just 195's with all that power.
BTW, what spark plugs are you using? And do you have a spreadsheet of the ignition timing values that you're using?

Theres a lot you need to do to turbo a vehicle. If your not sure what a turbo really does. Please read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell(owner or Cartech - they build bmw turbo manis/headers.) Itll explain everything you need and how to turbo a vehicle safely.

M10 boosted > M20 Boosted.
Thats just my personal opinion.

Ah. OK, holdfastgreg explain your logic?
Tell me your rational.

How could that Ever be even true.
The sweds are way over 450 Hp on their M20 turbos made
by PPF.

M10s turbos are very nice, I am saying that I don't like them,
I just like the m20 turbo a lot more.

Sweds are also over the 400whp mark on the m10 turbo(proturbo setup.) Now at that point, with anything in life, you decide what you prefer? Inline 6 or 4 banger? Its all personal choice, and I mean not to offend people. You should be able to squeeze out more power with the 6 but frankly, I like the small m10. Id like to keep something neutral in a turn if possible and the m10, to me, just seems a little bit more balanced.

If they dont have it you can order it online or get it from the miriad of bookstores. You can also read supercharged! by corky bell as well(it explains superchargers.)

Do you have the rpm "x" axis chart? Would be nice to see what your powerband over the range would be like.

Do you have it tuned? Looks like you have a few hicups in your power band when you boost kicks in.... Fixing that would definately give you a smoother "seat of your pants" feel.

Amazing car!! Way to work the m10 to its potential.

if i were to put a turbo on my stock car what would it take to get it to safely work like what would i have to modify and around how much would it cost

With K-jet? Bare bones you would need a WUR from an audi 5000s, ignition timing retard canister to back off timing, a turbo exhaust manifold, custom exhaust, a turbo, oil lines to and from turbo, a blow off valve, a manual boost controller, boost gage, air fuel ratio meter, and custom intake plumbing. It's not cheap or easy any way you do it.

so what kinda expenses am i looking at?

jrcook320
07-22-2006, 01:03 PM
I'm doing k-jet turbo, and im doing all the fab work myself. ive already spent over $1k

Yonkers320is
07-22-2006, 02:07 PM
i'm going the same way as good and tight, MS1 and edis4, but a log manifold like Josh. In parts alone it's over $1.5K. Turbo and manifold were the most expensive items; most of the fab work i'll do myself. exhaust will have to be done by a shop (I can graft the pipes, but the welding better be done by someone who does it for a living, like the guy from www.666fabrication.com

That is excatly what you need if you want to keep the k-jet, I sold a complete century turbo kit for $1k not too long ago running with the k-jet and water injection. Never got the car dynoed but it was making some serious power once the 10psi of boost hit.

BTW: I still have the water injection system if anyone is interested.

One of the projects that I've done is convert a CIS to EFI on a 1985 Audi Quattro Turbo Coupe using MS to control fuel and ignition. Below is a before and after dyno graphs of the convertion. It is quite impressive how much power can be gained by just removing all the restriction from the CIS and using EFI. Just as a note, both pulls were at the stock European wastegate setting of 1bar. Running the mechanical fuel injection setup really restricts the turbo from spooling up quicker. Plus tinkering with it to get the correct fuel mixture is a nightmare.

http://kitoautosport.com/projects/Fuel%20Injection/1985%20Ur-Quattro/images/000_1.jpg

More pics of the convertion can be seen by clicking here. (http://kitoautosport.com/projects/Fuel%20Injection/1985%20Ur-Quattro/index.html)

greggearhead

Yeah, those turbo coupes kick arse.

Between the more accurate fueling and ignition, as well as the reduction in restriction, that type of increase is typical. Same reason I am doing it.
