View Full Version : want a system does it void warranty?
Crnkitup19 07-19-2006, 06:50 PM i just bought a 2003 325i. ive always had two 10 inch subs in my other cars. i took my car to the guy that usually installs my stereo systems, and he said he couldnt do it because hes afraid it will void the warranty.he also said there is a metal plate behind my back seat that will just cause the trunk to ratal. i dont want a new deck all i want is two 10 or 12 inch subs and an amp of course. would this void warranty or are there ways around it? thanks
carstereopro 07-19-2006, 08:05 PM Will NOT void warranty.
See the Magnussen-Moss Act.
Not the best link, but the first one that popped up:

mbanks21 07-20-2006, 12:10 AM The guy you usually take your car to is an idiot. So he wont touch a car unless its 5 years old or older?
Crnkitup19 07-20-2006, 11:47 AM No he wont touch the car becuase he usually works on chevys and they dont run off a computer like a BMW does.

Let your mechanic know that every car in the US built after 1996 has a computer in it. OBD2 diagnostics were mandated in 1996, so that scratches your computer theory.
I think he's just afraid he'll taint the superior German Engineering.
el.duderino 07-20-2006, 05:38 PM You need two things:
1) A new installer. Anyone who usually works on Chevys isn't allowed to be MECP certified. Look it up.
2) You need to know what a "system" is. A "system" plays music. A
"subwoofer" plays bass. You don't want a system. You want a sub.
mbanks21 07-21-2006, 11:41 AM Any Chevy from like 02 up has a Class2 Databus. 06+ has their new LAN system which is even more of a pain

Well, I guess you can find your own dumb monkey to do your install.
We wanted to let you know your installer is as usless as your opinion.
Have a nice day.:)
xeler8 07-21-2006, 11:52 PM wow kid.... go to best buy, circuit city, or local car audio specialist and have them put in your subs.

your damn f8ing driveway?
Your neighbors house?
at sonic?
At best buy?
inthe parking lot of best buy?
in the parking lot of a local theater?
all places i have done installs
Instead of being a snippy little POS, how about you realize that your so called installer is a hack and you should NEVER EVER EVER do any business with him again, nor should your friends. Second please realize that we can't tell you where to get it done. Anyone with 8 fingers, 2 thumbs and 1/2 a brain should be able to install it.
You can
A: do it yourself
or
B: take it to a local shop. I don't live near you so I don't know where you can get it done.
Get a phone book out, turn to the yellow pages and look and see who does stereos in your area?
The first step is always to help and research/help yourself.
Laziness is NOT a positive attribute, and neither is being a whiny crybaby. You've already got two strikes against you so good luck ever getting any help again.
You want my help, it's $30 bucks an hour.

How about "thank you for the free advice, sir, may I have some more?"
Take the meds, kid, I think they help.
