Well, I tried to post a little about a project I plan to start. I wrote a few paragraphs to state my plans and then it proceeds to tell me that I can't post pictures due to my user status and then deletes all I wrote. Guess I'll try again later after a few meaningless posts.
Anyway, I have a 2002 that I plan to restore and I need to know the year so I can apply for a lost title. I got the car for free (well, a little labor too) from a friend who bought it for the interior. I thought initially I would build a race car out of it, but I think it might make a nice street car since the body is very clean and almost rust free.
Manufacture Plate says:
Typ 2002
Fahrgest 2572187
Weight 1340 etc...
Is there a specific digit that notes year? Or is there somewhere else I need to look. Dash is gone...

Looks like its a 71...
Needs new hood, front fenders...which, to me, seems like a good excuse for some flares and fiberglass parts. I want to stay BMW as far as the drivetrain is concerned. I'll be starting with body work, trim..then suspension, and on to a motor swap (or I guess install since there's nto one in it right now). I'll probably modernize it a bit as far as removing a majority of the chrome bits.
I want to do this right so I'll probably go ahead and put it on a rotiserie. If you guys have seen any pics of good mounting points for this, let me know.
I plan to start from scratch with an aftermarket wiring harness, I've done this before and it really makes life easy in the long run. well, just rambling...more to come.

The best/only real mounting points for a rotisserie are the bumper holes that go into the frame rails. Actually I can only speak for my '76 with the big sturdy bumpers. I'm not 100% sure about the earlier models.

Welcome.
Another useful site to check is:

As for the rotisserie, you can try looking at the following site to see how Martin in Colorado built his setup.

Yes, I ran across that site on the rotisserie not too long after posting...looks like a good start! I've been (and continue) to look through 2002faq, there's lots of good links there. I started researching the build about a year ago when I first picked up the car, but just didn't have the time to start on it.
Now that I have finished most of the projects on my race car...it's looking promising. I think this will make a good long term father/son project and compared to my race car should be "relatively" inexpensive(initially anyway). I figure I have a good 6-9 months in body prep which just requires lots of time.
