Hi,
I just bought a 2005 pre-owned BMW Z4 3.0i last week. I was driving around few days ago and heard a loud awful metallic noise from the under carraige when attempting to make a right turn onto an elevated surface. It almost sounded like metal on metal, I could not tell if this was coming from the shocks, struts or some mounting . I did some test runs and it happens on left turns as well.
Any one have any ideas?

Nope, I am pretty sure it did not happen. Infact I heard it yesterday while making a sweeping left turn with no elevation changes..
Can anyone tell me if you using the sport mode for extended periods of time can cause damage to the suspension or other structural members. Since I bought my car pre-owned I am wondering if the sport mode might have been over used or abused, if that is even a technically correct term. The noise that the car makes on turns sounds like metal on metal almost like some body member or shock was moving on some other metal part.

Nah i doubt it has anything to do with the sport mode. It may be a problem with your suspension does it sound like somthing rubbing?? If it continues to be a problem i would definently take it into the dealer and let them listen to the noise, is your car still under warranty? If so take it to them right away and show them the noise.

Mine too dose this, but only some once in a while. I'm going to have my CV axles lokked at. It is very loud. Mine sound like I ran over some metal twine.

The metal braces that bolt to the top of the strut towers meet at the windshield end of the engine compartment need to be tightened. Common problem. :buttrock

Agreed. This is a more likely culprit, though it couldn't hurt to check the bushings using 16-inch channel lock pliers. If there's any give at all, they need to be replaced. I'd also check the sway bar mounts.
