e46 M3s just start up funny sometimes...

Even around the dealer, they sometimes idle dip and sound funny.

I think the S54 is just a type of motor that has trouble with a steady idle.

I mean the motor has 6 throttle bodies, all with their own idle bypass. On a fly by wire throttle system that controls it all.

It somehow works very well...
