View Full Version : repost of my own post e21enthusiast 07-17-2006, 06:24 PM i posted this at pnwbb i dont feel like makeing the post again, but wanted to spread the info about the volume air flow sensor http://pnwbb.com/forum2/index.php?showtopic=296&st=0&#entry2147 :buttrock OldGray320i 07-17-2006, 07:49 PM So you're saying the 2.0 air flow meter is a bolt in swap w/the 1.8? Did I read that right? peperry 07-17-2006, 10:14 PM wow thats awesome! Looks like i'll be hitting up the pick a part and doing that swap. I never realized it was such a huge difference AE101 07-18-2006, 12:22 AM very interesting.. so what kind of a job was it to do this? e21enthusiast 07-18-2006, 02:17 PM it is a direct bolt in as your going to get,the only thing is you have to switch the bottom halves of both the vafs,so put the bottom half of the 2.0 on the 1.8 vafs.otherwise you have to run the stock airbox and cant clamp on your intake. its well worth the small amount of money it costs to do. and a noticible differance! easy to do as well just kinda a pain if you dont take off the intake, which you dont need to do,then its a really tight spot and the rubber boot will take the longest just getting those hose clamps back on. but go for it. its a nice little mod. EFreak 07-18-2006, 02:24 PM I read somewhere that there are careful adjustments and setting that must be made when opening the AFM. Have you checked your AFR? Maybe pull the plugs? erzengel13 07-18-2006, 02:53 PM Might be worth the investment to do a little research. My budy has a dyno shop so I can test everything, so when I get a chance (the parts roundup), I'll see what I can do...:) OldGray320i 07-18-2006, 06:43 PM Cool. jrcook320 07-18-2006, 08:20 PM I read somewhere that there are careful adjustments and setting that must be made when opening the AFM. Have you checked your AFR? Maybe pull the plugs? It would only require a simple mixture adjustment, 30 seconds with a 3mm allen key. Tune by ear, butt dyno, air fuel ratio meter, or have the CO% adjusted at a shop. Since you're running the same fuel distributor, the control pressures can stay the same. Very cool mod, I'm suprised this hasn't been posted before. If I weren't going turbo I'd be buying one of these right.... NOW! greggearhead 07-18-2006, 08:46 PM Yep - I have done this mod on lots of old VWs that got bigger engines. 60mm flow plate to 80mm REALLY makes a difference when you have an engine capable of 120-150hp. That little plate chokes the shit out of airflow. jrcook320 01-10-2007, 09:50 PM I took the liberty to repost the pics here so we all don't have to register on PNWBB: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a147/kristasjz/vafs3.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a147/kristasjz/vafs.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a147/kristasjz/vafs2.jpg blitzed310 01-10-2007, 10:04 PM I already did this swap, oh wait... no i didnt. |
