View Full Version : Setting dealer options like DRL...
xaxis360 07-14-2006, 01:38 PM How do I set the dealer options like D.R.L. ON/OFF and central locking options. My 740i I just purchased unlocks all doors when I press the unlock button on the key. I read that it can be "programmed" to just unlock drivers then passengers with a second press. thanks.

Talk to your dealer, bring your checkbook (they will charge for their time, of course).
760list 07-14-2006, 03:14 PM they definately can do that...
unirok 07-14-2006, 03:23 PM Wow something so simple requires a trip to the dealer and a fee. I am new to the BMW world.

Welcome! That sucking sound you'll hear is money flying out of your wallet.
Seriously, it's not that bad.

I also cringe when I think of what could go wrong and how much BUT driving hasn't felt so good until I got my 7! I think the trick is to treat the high failure items that are posted here as maintenance items; in this way, the work and expenses can be planned... :)
RIboater 07-14-2006, 07:54 PM $100/1 hour minimum, so have them program everything you want while they're at it. It'll take them 10 minutes.
pass427 07-14-2006, 08:44 PM Its funny becuase I want to activate my DRL and i took my car to the dealer and they told me that becuase I took my DSP amp out when i replaced my system they could not do it and it would required a reprogram order that take up to 3 hrs. Any ever heard such a load of crap. Car is a 99

Stealership blows meaner N harder than 404 hoez off of Virginia Ave! (Honestly I won't know of it personally but of the dealership yes!)
xaxis360 07-15-2006, 12:03 AM What is this "computer" they have? Is is Windows based? Can I use a laptop? btw, I went to the dealer today and asked about it. He gave me a sheet of paper with options on it to check off. Central locking, DRL, walk-home lighting, drive and lock to name a few.
Qsilver7 07-15-2006, 05:23 PM You can buy a Code reader that will give you the fault code # that was registered...and you can buy a Peake Tool or purchase Carsoft and others to do certain jobs like DME, ABS, and SRS resets...but they will never be as complete as the proprietary BMW DIS and/or MoDic units. BMW's DIS is used to perform work requiring proprietary information, such as coding new control units and reading fault codes on everything from the AC system to the door locks and interior lights.

johnnyv23 11-30-2006, 02:45 PM Hi I'm new to group just purchased a 97 740 and imported to canada so I have to have the drl lights on to register it . I have ordered an elm327 odb ll laptop
code reader and was hoping to switch the drl's on myself without a trip to the dealer.
LJBimmers 11-30-2006, 03:02 PM Items like that require the Modic or DIS computers. As Qsilver7 mentioned some have bought carsoft and got it to work, but I've found, by personal experience, that 00 - 01 E38's don't seem to respond to the carsoft programming of the LCM/Key options.
I wanted self lock and home safe features activated on my '01 and couldn't do it with carsoft! I'll have to go to the $tealer for Modic or DIS hookup!
baum7 11-30-2006, 09:41 PM i went to the dealer here in bakersfield california he only charged me 45.00 for drl s locks and he gave me a list of stuff i could do to my car go to e38 .org the have a list on what u can program also
