the check engine light comes on and off and it reads o2 sensor codes. that was the last thing on my list of 100K mile tune up that i have not done yet.

does anyone have any advice, is it bad to drive if these suckers arent working properly. its the two after the cats... but i would change all for if i were to do them.

as of now the light is off, but i have been told that is typical with an 02 sensor on the fritz. so is it bad to drive with bad sensors. the last thing i want to do is have to get new cats... i am trying my best to protect and preserve those.

:( Hopefully its just your O2 sensors.

I knew of an 98 7 that had that indication around 100k though the secondary O2 sensors is what were affected. The problem may be higher upstream or worse case your cats may have gone bad already.

97 M3 went through 3 O2 sensors aft. the cats, the tech found dog food in the air intake after the car was stored over winter from mice making their home, weird!

good luck:cool

that is too random, dog food!!!

i know the cats are good i have had them checked by the tech

i just want to know, my engine light is off now, and i have to get the car inspected with the state, just wondering if its harmful for the cats to drive on slowish o2 sensors... i have a feeling it cant be good

If the front 02 sensors are bad...they will affect the oxygen mixture and cause the engine to run "rich"...which will eventually ruin the cat convertors...I believe the rear 02 sensors read the oxy content and lets the engine know that the cats are doing their job.

So if the fronts are bad...they will take out the cat convertors...and if that's the case...I wouldn't wait long. But please verify this info...I may not be totally correct.
