i have just ordered a 2006 650i. i already own a 2005 x5 and purchased the three extended warranties when i bought that car from the dealership. i've always felt better safe than sorry but obviously they are quite expensive if you buy all three offered. i used the tire warranty on the x5 already and it paid for itself. i was wondering what the thoughts are on the big two...general maintenece and major mechanical? my dealer is offering them to me at substantial discounts (1k off each of the big two) and less than half for the tire warranty. what are the opinions/experiences so far on brand new cars?

thanks (glad i found this forum) by the way, if i'm in the wrong section for this question, please advise

How long are you going to keep the car and how many miles do you drive? I find those warranties to be a bit overpriced. The general maintenance one is the biggest burn of all. Come on Alan you know you're gonna trade in that 650 on an M6 within the original warranty period.

hi...i generally keep my cars for extended periods 5-8 years. i am buying the car and put very few miles on any car i drive (less than 5k per year). i did buy them for the x5 i bought for my wife last year. i made an excellent deal for this new 650i and i honestly don't know if i would buy the m (actually don't know enough about it).

i couldn't find this subject (warranties) when i searched the forums. and i've always felt better safe than sorry. so i wanted to get some of the members feelings

thanks
