i just ordered one and am just going to install it in the drivers side. i have spent the last hour reading all kinds of theories on how to install all kinds of seats. what do i need to install these?

i want to keep the stock seat belt, i want to run the schroth rallye 4's i have (rears bloted in no cage) would this bolt like it does to the vader on the same bolt for the stock buckle?, what mounts are best? and anything else you can think of. i am too confused, please help.

You should be able to use VAC floor mount and use a Sparo side mount to attach the seat to the car. Call up HMS Motorsport and ask them about mounting options for the Rallye 4s. They will have several options.

Are you sure the Evo 3 will fit an M3? I was told they weren't a while back when I was bigger and needed that seat.

ok now that i looked through everything again and with some luck. i have the seat, side mounts and sliders coming. i guess i still need to order the floor mounts (from VAC) and figure out how to attach the factory seat belt buckle to the seat.

i only got one seat. i got it from another forum member so it is used. and sorry i do not recognize the acronym FIA?

It was a bit of work, but it fit. At 275-ish, not many options for shell seats.
I'll help you out when you get the seat, might even still have some pics of the
install. If the floor adapters are still available I'll throw them in the box.

Evo2 was a much easier fit by comparison, didn't care for the VAC adapter and
side mounts, ended up fabbing custom side mounts that bolt to the stock locations.

FYI, I just picked up an Sabelt Taurus XL from Bimmerworld. Fits larger guys like me, has head protection, is cutout for HANS, FIA cert'd, and Bimmerworld's price is right.

I just installed an Evo 2/L a couple weeks ago in my e36 coupe. I fabed VAC motorsport like mounts, and made a no offset inner side mount to get the seat toward the transmission tunnel as much as possible. I can't fit my finger between the shoulder bolster and the door card. I've seen fitment issues with the Evo 3/XL in e34's which is a wider car.

I'm sure with some tweeking it'll fit though, you might just need to get creative, like cutting into the transmission tunnel carpet/foam.

Also, as a note, ditch the factory buckle, as someone mentioned here, just source an e30 buckle and properly bolt it the side mount. I did that and it works flawlessly.

Bolting the belt buckle to the side mount is iffy. Whether that is acceptable depends entirely on how strong the rest of the mount is. A better solution is to bolt the buckle to a bracket held directly in place by the rear adapter bolt that goes into the car body.

The side mount is about 1/8" thick, with a large washer on either side of the side mount and a properly rated bolt/nut it should hold. But yes, I agree, it all depends on the rest of the mount. In my application I'm using a slider and I don't have access to the rear bolt that goes to the body.
