View Full Version : ITG Filter issues
CABimmer 07-12-2006, 10:15 PM Im on my second ITG filter. the last one started to seperate at the glue marks on the front of the filter. Eurosport replaced it for free. That was about 2 years ago. Today I go to clean it for about the 4th time. It is just dissolving around the edges. I have used only No-toil oil and cleaner. The stuff that was supplied with the filter.
Any idea what the issue is? or has anyone else seen this.
Im going to call eurosport on Friday.
1996 328ti 07-13-2006, 12:09 AM I've had the ITG filter for 2 years. Cleaned it maybe 3 times so far.
No problems here.
maranelloman 07-13-2006, 08:56 AM I have heard of this happening frequently.

I believe the glue is somewhat water soluble, so it probably pays to be as gentle and quick as possible during the cleaning. Mine is still ok and seems to be working well.
It's kind of sketchy to use these things (oiled filters in general), imo. It's difficult to judge how much oil is enough, when they're getting too dirty, if there is separation from the base or among the layers of foam, etc. There is no dust in my intake behind the filter, but there is some sticky oil residue. Hopefully it's not fouling my MAF.
CorgiCoupe 07-13-2006, 12:45 PM I had one that crumbled (outside foam layer) on the 3rd washing, and it was less than 2 years old. My friend bought one on the same invoice and his went the same way. Eurosport replaced them both, even though they were purchased from Turner. I wonder if there was a bad batch? While I was waiting for the replacement (they were backordered) I fitted it with a K&N. The rubber coupling fit over the CF tube.
Jim Bassett 07-13-2006, 01:40 PM document is correct, the glue is somewhat water-soluble. I've replaced the one on my M3 after about 5 years as it started to separate. No big deal.
Here's the cleaning instructions from ITG:

CABimmer 07-13-2006, 01:57 PM Yep, they are sending me another new one. Big thumbs up for Eurosport.
Master Shake 07-13-2006, 03:07 PM My ITG filter also started crumbling and dissolving. I just bought a new replacement.
kentd98 07-13-2006, 04:11 PM What if I wanted to keep my conforti CAI but wanted to replace the itg element with a paper cone filter?
Does any one make a high performance paper cone filter?
Thanks,
Kent
vinsont 07-13-2006, 06:47 PM Amsol makes a non oile replacement. It is an EA series filter. I just replaced my ITG with one and can not tell the difference. It is paper microfiber, cleanable, and not oiled.

hmmm... nanofibers.

All you had to tell them was that the filter was separating from the glue marks and they sent you a brand new one for free? Mine is doing the same thing and was dreading having to spend $70 on a damn filter. I'll try giving Eurosport a call I guess.
raydoc 09-07-2006, 03:50 PM How long do you wait for the filter to dry before you reoil it? How about after you oil it?

K&N RC-3250 fits over the Conforti intake tube perfectly. K&N told me the flow characteristics were appropriate for the coupe.

I usually let mine sit out in the sun for a couple of hours to dry. If I plan it right, I clean it in the AM, let it sit and dry while I do other stuff, then re-oil & install in the afternoon. Easy.
Once you re-oil it, I don't believe there's any waiting necessary. Just reinstall it.
Jim - 2 cars, 2 ITG filters :)

Ditto, but I usually do wait about 15-20 minutes after re-oiling before installing again.
My filter's been on for a year and been cleaned about 3-4 times with no problems so far.
Jim Bassett 09-07-2006, 04:53 PM To be fair, I should mention I'm waiting ~5 days before driving the car with the freshly-cleaned filter - don't need the race car til Sat :)

bimmerdriver99 09-07-2006, 07:14 PM I had the ITG filter for about 2 years, but it did start to disolve and break down. I replaced it with a K&N filter that was slightly Larger and in my mind was a good idea to do the replace. I like the KN a bit better.
