View Full Version : Quick release hub?
i3element 07-12-2006, 06:34 PM Who has had success on purchasing and installing a quick release hub and steering wheel for there 02'. I'm going to eventually do club racing with my 02' and I was wondering what brand or better yet product specific you guys have used. I want to stay away from the price of sparco and momo, but I will definitly consider all suggestions. Welding is not a problem. Correct me if im wrong, I belive the my 02' steering shaft diameter is 1/2in.
Thanks for all the help.

Dickfruster 07-12-2006, 11:34 PM E21 stuff might fit on there, so ebay is the way to go. Ask people in the E21 forum, they should know.
SOUTHBAYeric 07-13-2006, 12:08 AM E21 stuff will fit but why would you want to cheap out on a steering wheel that can come off easily?

I dont think he is looking to "cheap out". Rather, not spend $300+ on a Sparco adapter when others will do the same trick.
You can use any steering wheel you want as long as you have the Momo adapter and most all quick release adapters fit the Momo/Sparco patern.
This is a good one from Flying Brick Performance.

i3element 07-13-2006, 03:27 AM Thanks for sticking up for me vtbimmer, I would never sacrafic performance to save a few bucks, but why spend more when its unneccisary, if its uneccisary. Thanks for the link I also have a 88' 325is, that site is excellent.

LTB is a good place to do business with.
One thing more than cost that you need to take into consideration is the thickness of the quick release. QR's like Sparco and the one from FB Performance are thin and therefore dont push the wheel further towards you. LTB's and other can get very thick. It depends on what your needs are and, if you have a fixed mount seat. Its always best to get one that is not so thick and add spacers to adjust if needed.

This one is very nice if you don't need a horn. It doesn't have any play like some of the other "ebay" ones I've used.
I have the highest praise for LTB Motorsports customer service and products. I've dealt with them eversince they first started and never been dissapointed.

X2 Ive even used there ebay auctions.
and if you need/want a horn you can always wire it to a seperate button somewhere on the dash which is what Im going to do.
i3element 07-13-2006, 08:43 PM Thanks for all the help guys I think I'm going to go with a OMP wheel and a LTB Quick Release Kit & Spacer. I think the spacer might be good cuase the kirkey seats I'm using are in a fixed positioin and althought the pedals are in perfect reach the wheel is a little to far away.
visionaut 07-15-2006, 08:20 PM FYI - KSport also makes one you might want to look into. $74 from ultrarev.com. Nice unit (ball bearing vs. spline design), and it includes horn wiring. Works with standard 6-bolt Momo/Sparco set-up.
i3element 07-28-2006, 07:17 PM Just wanted to let everyone know that today I got my OMP wheel and LTB quick release hub with the 1in. spacer. So far everthing bolts up perfect. The inner diameter of the hub is .75in. I dont think there will be a problem having it welded on but i will lwt everyone know how well it fits when mounted.
