kendogg 07-11-2006, 08:59 PM Redline oils? I'd love to be able to simple go somewhere and pick it up off the shelf rather than buy it online and have to wait. Normally, I'm willing to wait, but idk how long I want to have my car down while I'm waiting for oil. Looking for Redline MTL and Redline 75W-90 gear oil specifically, 2 quarts of each. Thanks.
I have the gear oil. I have most of a case left.

JennB 07-11-2006, 09:41 PM Doesn't Summit Racing sell it?
kendogg 07-11-2006, 09:43 PM Doesn't Summit Racing sell it?
It's possible. I'll look online right now. Never paid much attention to them, as they don't exactly cater to the Euro crowd..... Where is the summit store, anyways?

WTF? How the hell did you find that, lol, I couldn't find it, lmao.
Sweetness. I have no idea where that is yet, but I have to get ahold of JJ Byzanz soon anyways to get that exhaust from him, so maybe I'll try and find this place the same day.
G. P. Burdell 07-11-2006, 09:47 PM :lol3
I have teh mad interweb search skillz.
JennB 07-11-2006, 09:48 PM I KNOW I've seen their products there because I was playing with the pink Water Wetter stuff last time I was there and smelling those race gas additives that are on the same shelves.
$8 a quart at Summit, their store is way the hell down in McDonough, plus they'll charge you tax. I'll do the same price, no tax, no shipping and I'll bring it with me tomorrow.

If you grab a bite to eat while you're down there, choose carefully...a couple of the fast food joints we visited had scored in the 60s and 70s (out of 100!) on their health inspections.
No, I can't. Not in a timely fashion. Actually I was probably going to try to pick up some regular MTL locally for my transmission. I think the MTL 90 may be a little heavy. :az

There are other places closer to you taht may stock the redline you're looking for. Harrison Motorsports comes to mind although I am not sure how much if any they stock. 866-795-2002

Nah, I'm not buying from Harrison. They're direct competitors to my good friends, and I've heard enough bad stories about them to stay away from their shop. Any idea where else I could find Redline then? Advance stopped selling it a year or so ago. None of the other parts stores sell it, that I know of at least
Any why would youw anna run MTL-90? Thats not even reccommended for BMW trans's. IDK about your M50 swap, as thats a ZF trans, vs. the Getrag's in the older units, but all the Getrags always spec'd MTL.
AND 60's and 70's in health department scores? How are they still in business? In NY, AFAIK, 95 was failing. Repeated less than 95% equaled shutting down your estaurant, from what I remember. Thats ludacris that 60's and 70's are allowed to continue to be in business in this state, especially without avoiding stiff fines.
Cwaters 07-11-2006, 10:11 PM Impart has it.
racer wholesale probably does.
Discoveryparts.com has it.

no idea where your goin with that, but, ok.
Good old steve Haygood came thru for me. He carry's the Redline products, and drop ships a ton of parts for me like 2nd day or something dirt cheap. He's out of Thomaston, GA.

Actually, I will probably be running a Getrag in my car, although it's a lot different than an e30-era 260.
And BMW specifies D4 ATF in their (post-e21) manual transmissions, which I wouldn't hesitate to replace with Redline MTL and call it a day if I hadn't run across this. (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1331375&postcount=7)
I will be running a lightweight (8lb :redspot) flywheel with my swap, so I would like to keep the chatter to a minimum. Plus, as the tranny gets on in age I would like to run a thicker fluid to keep wear down, even at the expense of smoothness.

:dunno
We were shocked to see a 65 posted in one establishment. We decided we'd rather stick it out and eat closer to home after finishing our business at Summit.

I've never heard of anybody using MTL-90, but everybody I'v EVER talked to has ALWAYS said run MTL in any Getrag BMW manual trans. I've been researching these for years, so I'll stick to what I know works. Thanks for the link though. And yes, ATFis WAY too thin for our tranny's. Just wish the PO would've changed the trans fluid in myt ruck before 100k miles when I did it when I bought it. Might not have been black then. Damned Ford owners :mad

According to Redline, MTL is not much thicker than ATF... it's just different. Redline MTL is designed to replace almost any lube ever used in a manual tranny, gear oil, engine oil, ATF... whatever. But it's only slightly thicker than ATF and lubricates and protects like gear oil, so it works for all of them, I guess.
http://www.redlineoil.com/whitePaper/13.pdf <= I don't get most of this.

Hey Matt, any chance you have any Redline MTL tranny oil, I need 2 quarts? Actually, I have a quart so one will do, just wanted extra.... :)
kendogg 07-12-2006, 10:04 AM Not really. I really dont want to be shitting on anybody personally in here, this is a public forum. Ive personally never dealt with Harrison Motorsports. All I meant was that I choose not to is all.
Sorry Sebastian, all I have is the gear oil.

Doctor Wha 07-12-2006, 10:23 AM that is over a 50 though
50 isn't even remotely close to acceptable. :nono
If you're in the mood for some heavy reading, here's the Georgia Public Health Code for Food Services (all 72 pages of it):
http://health.state.ga.us/pdfs/environmental/290-5-14.pdf
Much more straightforward though, is the State Inspection Sheet. It has a very clear breakdown of the Inspection scoring ranges:
http://health.state.ga.us/pdfs/environmental/ProposedFoodInspectionReport.pdf
Grade "A" = 100 - 90
Grabe "B" = 89 - 80
Grade "C" = 79 - 70
Grade "U" (meaning unsafe/unacceptable) = anything below 70.
So if "50" is your standard for decent health practices, all I can say is good luck, and enjoy your filth. :eyecrazy
Personally, I was advised long ago by someone with a first-hand knwoledge of food service never to eat in a place with anything below a score of 90.
:cool
We got a 99 at starbucks when I worked there. I think we lost a point for something like our hot water wasn't hot enough. :rofl
I never eat anywhere that doesn't have good food. :buttrock

Except for barbeque. The lower the score, the better the Q.

If anything less than 70 is failing, isn't it unsettling that there's so much space "under the curve"?
I mean, those first 70 points have to be for REALLY basic stuff like "Don't tenderize the meat by throwing it down on the sidewalk and stomping on it with your bare feet...":nono (BTW, that was one of the citations given to a food vendor outside the Dome last year during a "cultural" event. Or so I'm told.:shifty Please note here that it was an outside vendor and not somebody who was working in or for the Dome.)

That's more of a glass-half-empty/full question, in a way. One could also suppose that the bar is set high on purpose. :az
However, if one reads the state Code section on food service, it's pretty evident, that with all the allowances for corrections and "re-inspections," the state is quite reluctant to shut down a business if doing so can be avoided. This is predictable, of course, because if the business is shut down, there goes a source of permit, licensing, and worst of all, tax revenue for the local, county, and state governments. :rolleyes
Surprise, surprise... Government looks out for itself first, the people it "protects" second. :shifty
Either way, I'd say it's shows even more clearly why we stick with places that consistently score 90 or better. Just last year, we quite going to a favorite pizza joint because their score suddenly plummeted from the mid-90s to a 76. That's a helluva drop on one inspection. :confused
:cool

Heh...
One kitchen I worked in had full fledged inspector-drills. Somebody saw her car in the driveway, yelled, and we all flung into action. Imagine the cry of La Migra!!! at the construction site... :help
And we ALL knew when they were making rounds, resturant owners up the street would call with the heads-up.
Not to say we were a dirty kitchen or anything, but it's a LOT of nit-picky stuff when the inspector shows up...It wouldn't be hard to get a low score on a slow day.
