This will be an awesome event!

The word is quickly spreading about the new Heartland Park.

I was there at a recent SCCA race that had over 300 racers!!

The recent PCA DE/ Club Race at Heartland Park was a near sell out!

If you want a chance to drive the new Runoffs configured track you better sign up quick!

Question 1: What track configuration will BMWCCA be using? 2: Does that place have decent seating (good locations) around the track to watch the action?

Do you have a schedule for the club racers? Recommended places to stay? Will definitely be attending this event!

As for #2, there is plenty. I was planning on going, but have relocated to Michigan. Made it to Gingerman though.

We are finalizing the club race schedule. As of now there will be two twenty or thirty racer only practice sessions on Friday. At least one of those will include practice starts for rookies. The remainder of the day racers can drive at will with the advanced students and instructors utilizing DE rules (point to pass and designated passing zones). I believe there will be two races on each Saturday and Sunday afternoons with two practice sessions each morning with the possibility of doing one enduro on one of the afternoons. I will update when I have the final schedule.

The "Official Hotel" is the Super 8 just a few minutes from the track. It is new and very clean. We will host one of the KC BMW Club near famous "Camraderie Sessions" Friday night during registration for DE students (you don't want to miss this!). Information on the event and hotels is at http://www.kcbmwclub.com/files/2006%20Info%20Pack.pdf.

1. We will be using the full 2.5 configuration (including turns 1, 2, 3 carousel and 4). This is the same configuration that will be used for the SCCA Run-Offs. The new track surface and configuration is fantastic and for those that have not been to HPT in a while, you will not believe the new buildings (tech, garages, timing, tire distribution, etc.)

2. We hope that the fencing along the new 1000X1000 sf autocross pad is in place in August. If so, there will be places never seen by spectators at HPT (turns 1-7). There are also great places at Alpha 0, the esses (8-9) and turns 10-14 from the berms and grandstand.

I have been doing events at HPT since 1998 and the place is unrecognizable this year. No one will be disappointed with the facilties.

The track is awesome now with the new track surface. It's a very fast track and like Ned has mentioned, the new facilities are awesome.

This will be my first club race so I hope to see a big field of racers.

I ran Heartland for the first time ever this March with the KC BMW crew. We ran the new 2.5 config, and I was super-impressed - very fun track, going to be fun to race on. Wide, smooth, lots of passing zones methinks. Kind of track that you will have to defend a great deal on, and if someone checks out and can run a qualifying line, they will be gone. Folks behind them will have to team up to catch them, etc.

Did they fix that bump at the apex of the right-hander after the carousel? That was the only imperfection on the entire track. And it really wasn't that bad, just a little amusing when the car hopped over a few feet. Makes the students and passengers a little nervous though :devillook

For IP gearing, I was getting near the top of 5th before the braking zone at 1 with a 3.64 diff and 7200 rpm limit. So a 3.64 should be fine, a 3.73 with a Sunbelt limit (7500 rpm) should be fine, a 3.73 with a lower limit may hit the limiter, but not for very long, prolly not really an issue.

I thought it was a little tough on brakes, but not horrible. The Super 8 is a nice hotel, and the Blind Tiger has great beer. And the KC folks put on a great DE earlier this year, I'm sure they will do a fantastic job with a club race. Looking forward to this one!!!!

Thanks Vern! Yes, they did fix the bump in turn 4.

Hope to see you in August, bring your friends! The KC BMW Club is taking a financial risk holding the Club Race. We hope racers take advantage of the opportunity.
