Still need hardi board on the dormers. I will install standing seam copper across the eyebrow on the garage. Brick starts going on the foundation next week. Same with ext. paint. Tomorrow the front columns get built.

G. P. Burdell 07-11-2006, 02:59 PM Big 26x26 garage. Booyah.
I'll take one of those, please.
Jean-Claude 07-11-2006, 03:06 PM What? No rotary lift in the garage?
MY garage will have a lift. This is my first spec home.
Doctor Wha 07-11-2006, 03:20 PM I'll take one of those, please.
I doubt it. :shifty
That's barely bigger than what we have now. All our stuff would be crammed right back to the rafters. :rolleyes
Now, this would be more like it (minus the Detroit clunkers):

Oh, and nice-looking place, JC.
:cool
Jean-Claude 07-11-2006, 03:23 PM Those garages are not expensive. About the most expensive part is the concrete. The steel package on a building like that is about $15k.
The avarage 2-garage is aprox. 26x22. Mine is 26x26.

Yeah, we've priced them, and several other options. The concrete is always the killer. :az

Concrete+land/space=teh killer.

How much land were you looking to clear? How does the land lay?

And it is only going to get much worse. Everytime I bid a job or order concrete, it goes up:eek: Asphalt is going up too.
Doctor Wha 07-11-2006, 03:59 PM How much land were you looking to clear? How does the land lay?
We were thinking of something along the lines of 25 x 40 feet, roughly enough for a two-car garage/workshop. The land slopes downward, sort of behind and toward the house. (We're on top a mountain, after all, so no surprise there). There are several old and sizable hardwoods in the only area that would be available to us, so they'd have to go. Probably on the order of 30-40 trees total, by the time one counts the extension of the driveway that would have to be poured.
To get a flat enough area for a building of that size would also mean either grading the hill down, and putting a couple of retaining walls up behind it (not my preference), or putting the walls up on the low side of the area, and filling in.
Either way, our estimates for materials & labor (even without clearing & grading) were on the order or 30-40k, so we'd end up with a garage for roughly the price of a car, but no money for cars to put in it. :crazya

Yep. :thumbdown
Basically, we're resigned to moving into a different house, if we can find one that meets our myriad criteria and price range.
tabasco 07-11-2006, 05:07 PM Nice, JC.
