Howdy,

I just picked up a set of staggered csl's from mod baragins and I need to get some tires but I am not sure what brand to get. Tire Rack said I need to get 225/40/18 up front and 255/35/18 in the rear but I am not sure what brand. Any recommendations? I want a tire that handles but my wife will likely drive the car most often so I want as much comfort as possible. :help

are they staggered?

Why not just do 245/35/18s all around?

For street tires I just went with EL cheapo hankooks for 550 shipped. It all depends on how much you want to spend

Best: Yokohama AS430 & Advan Neova, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, Michelin HydroEdge

Average: Continental ContiSportContact 2, Bridgestone Potenza RE950, BF Goodrich Traction T/A

Below Avg: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, Bridgestone B330 Evo, Firestone Firehawk SZ50

If you want comfort....definitely the Yokohama AS430. Bar none one of the best tires on the road. Never had an issue in the 27,000 miles I have on mine and I still have about 40% life in it.

are u sure about the michelins ive had em for a while. no complain at all about comfort and road noise. and ive had a few ppl talk down on the as430. maybe they had bad experiences. but the hydroedge are a must thats what the lexus has now and there good all around A+, might get those on the 540i when these pilots are gone

mr magoo, i think a price range would help on this because theres such a wide variety of tires

I know but I really don't have a price range. I don't want to break the bank but I also don't want crappy tires...

Staggered FTMFL.

Seriously though, see if you can return that set in favor of a non-staggered.

My car was night and day after the switch to non staggered and good damn tires. No more understeer.

Falken RT615's, Hankook RS2's if you're on a budget, Neovas if you're a baller.

What about Pirelli's? That's what I have now (were on when I bought the car), and it's getting close to time for new shoes. Thinking about trying another brand, I could care less about road noise (my exhaust covers up most road noise), which tires have the best traction?

I have Pirellis on all my cars. P6s on the E34, PZeros on the E36 and Boxster. My E36 (at bottom) has 18x8.5s with 225/40s on front and 235/40s on back. No rubbing, but the back ones are close.

Which ones are better, P6's or Pzero's? I have P6's now and they stick to the road nicely.

I think I might! Either that or Yokohoma Advan. Now I gotta start thinking about rims

When it come to tires it really breaks down to trial and error. Gotta try some, and see what you think. (I know that's not as easy as it sounds, or cheap) BF Goodrich makes a good tire, Pirrellis are good too. My uncle swears by his Yokohamas. Me I just have some cheap ass Goodyears. Just have to see what works for you. Have you been over to Tirerack yet? Lot's of reviews etc. there.

After a TON of debate I think I am going to go with Eric and Iron Chef's recommendation and try some Kuhmo's. Seem to be the best bang for the buck. I have a place in Garland that I can get them for $580.00 walk out price,so I going to give them a try. Thanks for everyone's input!

Kumho MX
Bridgestone SO3
Toyo T1R

would be my top picks, in no particular order.

The toyos will probably a cheaper route. If you can drop the money just get the S03s.

x2 FTW and I might add that I was rockin the Kumhos which are from Korea and even discount tire will agree that they are garbage. The Falkens are the same price and 1000 x better. If you get an online quote from somewhere cheap like onlinetires or edgeracing they will give you that price.

Magoo,

I have an almost new set of the size tires you want sitting in my garage. They are the Kumho Mx's I believe. I'll trade you for that store credit......

Argh, I can't post URLs on this board.

Go to the Tire Rack site, there is a reprint of a C&D article where they test most of the new tires and rate them. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 wins, but they discuss pros and cons of most of the major max performance tires.

The URL is:

I've driven on both MX's and Hankook RS-2's and have been really impressed with both. Not noisy, have great grip and are really predictable.

If it's just for street duty I'm going to be a Rehan clone and get some Hankook K104's.
