View Full Version : Round One of the Road Atlanta Rezoning Battle
ctbimmer 07-10-2006, 10:09 AM Goes to the track. Read the link for details, but the planning commission voted 3-0 to deny the request. The full county commission will consider the matter on July 27. Very good news!

Doctor Wha 07-10-2006, 10:20 AM Excellent. :buttrock
But man, is this guy chock full of sh!t:
Developer's representative Brian Rochester said there is no intention to harm Road Atlanta. The developer plans to put a clear warning about the track in homeowners' deeds, he said.
"I think the key thing is to notify people that they have bought next to a race track," Rochester said.
Yeah, right! Like they're going to make really sure to mention something that could scuttle their sales. :rolleyes

The Z4 in your sig looks like a toy. :stickoutt
Well, even though it sounds like bs, if taken this way, hopefully that will keep the track alive.
e9nine 07-10-2006, 10:49 AM Awesome :buttrock . However - they will not give up this easily. Let's hope they don't get successful with their attempts as legal stuff has funny ways of turning around :(
bcart1991 07-10-2006, 10:59 AM This part holds much promise for the track:
In addition, the project does not meet the county's comprehensive plan definition of "mixed use," said member Don Smallwood.
Park at Riverside is dominated by residences instead of business parks as intended by the land-use plan, which is the county's guide to future growth.
Board member Jones Cottrell said the residential project would steal sewer from the commercial and industrial growth targeted for the area.
The county commission has said the 3-million-gallon sewer line on Winder and Old Winder highways will be used to bolster needed business.
As long as they stick to their long-range plan, which seems to have the track as a part of it, things should be okay.
...Until someone gets a commissioner in his back pocket and changes the long-term plan. :rolleyes

keeptheuroalive 07-10-2006, 12:58 PM Awesome. Keep Road Atlanta alive.
kesleke 07-10-2006, 02:09 PM Being born and raised in Hall County I can tell you that almost everyone there has a love for that track and Lanier Speedway as well. I don't see it going anywhere. Personally I would love to live beside it, could you imagine watching Speed out on your back porch and hearing the Petit? That would be cool!

keeptheuroalive 07-10-2006, 04:21 PM That is exactly what I was thinking. Races every weekend out from your back porch.

And Panoz testing on Monday afternoon when you're home sick from work and trying to take a nap...
OTOH, I can get my snooze ON when the race is on TV... real life Zoom Zoom may be just as good...

300 days a year would be a little too much noise for me. There are better places to build houses.

The noise ends early enough. The houses would be great for someone who races at RA frequently. If you break something there would be no hour drive home for a broken part.
Experimental M3 07-11-2006, 03:01 AM I would say if it were Don Panoz buying the ground, trying to rezone it, and marketing it as a "racer, track rat, and motorsport fan friendly housing development," it would fly a little better. :buttrock Hell, I might even be tempted...I've slept a few hours at the Daytona 24 in a RV less than 30 feet from active asphalt before. :buttrock
