i was wondering what kind of motor swaps are possible with a 1986 325e. i'm open to anything say maybe an sr20 or rb20 but i would like ot know all options, its basically gona boil down to cost effectiveness for me since i am in the military and dont exactly make what most people call good money.

Many owners have done an M50 swap (engines from e36 3 series), cheap conversion and you get more power - supposed to be easy and there are tons of parts available
