I used to pass almost everyone in white, I got passed all the time in red last time.

I guess its because guys like SALSA are in red.

Nothing to be really nervous about the cca has a great crew of instructors and they won't let anything happen to you or your car. Just sign up and you'll have tons of fun. You and Jeff can battle it out lol. The only thing thats going to suck is its going to be hotter than shit

I think you can get to that one from the bottom. We did it on seans car but his headers were out and it made it easy. I have to do mine before the DE too. I would rate it a 6mf

I sent an email to Brian, he will get back to you. I dont have any info on pricing. They are really nice looking. They are more firm than OEM. These have been one of the best mods Ive done. The car is so much more stable in corners while shifting. Shifts are much more precise as well. Everyone buys tranny mounts and I really think the issue is motor mounts for money shifts.

Ray, I have a stand alone unit that has an exhaust hose that goes out the window. I whish I had it plummed when the house was built. Next house.

Well, this is our second day job for now. That means we have to operate outside of "normal" hours. I should make that more clear on the msg so it doesn't sound like we're closed. We do however hover over email 24/7 so feel free to email us day and night. Our vmail pages us immediately so we can usually return messages quickly.

We will work on pictures of the motor mounts. Right now the prototype sets are on cars, one of which is equipped with a Twin Screw S/C kit.

What kind of AC are you runing in that garage? The main reason I stopped doing aything to the car is the heat. I can handle 80's, but high 90's and 100's means it's time to go inside.

I think you can get to that one from the bottom. We did it on seans car but his headers were out and it made it easy. I have to do mine before the DE too. I would rate it a 6mf

Did mine this morning. It wasn't too bad with that breeze out of the north.

Here's some of my notes: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569080

I agree with the 6mf for the first time. It would be a 3 now that I know what to do.

its just that I need to get a new helmet and the extra helmet cost is making it expensive. If I could find a place to crash friday and saturday night I could definately swing it.

Does MSR allow camping? if so.. do they have showers in the facilities?

My old M95 helmet isn't going to cut it at MSR.

top speed in each gear using a 7500 rpm redline
1st- 33
2nd- 55
3rd- 83
4th- 111
5th- 138

Not sure about the new long course, but (with a good driver- read NOT me) 5th might be needed after Big Bend. I am guessing that 5th might be needed going into Ricochet depends on how large of hairy appendages one has. I think the straight into Ricochet is the fastest part of the long course?

Bruce, you will definitely need to get to 5th after Big Bend. Into Ricochet? Hmmm....with all that rear downforce & none in the front, I doubt it...but it'll be close to the top of 4th (I am guessing maybe 6500) when the confidence level comes up...and likey 5th for a short squirt before Little Bend. "I received your email with the question about your classification for the upcoming DE. I reviewed your entry and your are registered for the Novice class which is where you will have to start. Our event's chief driving instructor has made a mandate that all drivers who have not driven on the MSR track before MUST start in Novice and then be promoted to other run groups as the weekend progresses. This is regardless of past experience and run group at other tracks. Sorry for this, and I hope it is not too much of an inconvenience. When you first meet your driving instructor on Saturday morning mention to him/her that you have DE experience on other tracks and that you would like to be promoted to a higher run group asap.

Let me pipe in, as co-Chief Instructor, here:

1) No, you cannot pick your instructor.

2) If you have SIGNIFICANT other track experience, alert your instructor on Sat. morning, so they can be looking at you for advancement.

3) Advancement is NOT guaranteed. Focusing on advancement is not a good idea.

4) Your request to change instructors will only be looked at in cases of serious communication problems, personality conflicts, or other glaring issues. Changing to change, for the sake of it, will be frowned upon, since it REALLY messes up our ability to record comments about each student for their next event with us, and creates unnecessary work for RAJ & ME for the rest of the weekend. EDIT: once you get to the Solo/Advanced group, you may request any instructor of your choosing, providing he/she is available at that moment. In fact, going out with a variety of instructors is a very good idea.

5) Anyone who thinks the new track is being "overhyped" can stuff it. The new section is significantly more dangerous than the old, and thus, since SAFETY is our primary objective, all due caution with those who have never been there before is well advised. If you have a problem with that policy, tell me face to face on Saturday morning. Don't bleat about it on the internet. However, realize that you will lose your argument, and safety will remain out #1 priority.

To add to Dave's comments...

6) try a different instructor...you just might learn something. Using the same instructors over and over just let's you keep doing the same things over and over. A fresh perspective is usually a good idea.

thanks for the explaining. I'm not trying to cause trouble. I'm just wondering how this works. I've not been to a bmwcca DE before. Just open track days at HMRC. I think I know what I'm doing but I'm not against instrutors making comments. I was just wondering how novice, novice was. Does novice class allow passing? Ray mentioned something about a parade style first session without helmets. Again, I'm not trying to cause trouble, I'm just excited about finally getting to go to a different track and wanting to know what to expect from the organization.

Yeah novice is usually green so your first session you go out with no helmets and the instructor will drive your car for a few laps then give you a shot. If its your first time at msr just go with it because its a pretty complicated track and that first session will probably help out. After that moving into blue shouldn't be a problem.
See ya out there

The novice group goes out for a parade session with the instructor driving your car. This is to show you the line. the next session you will drive, if you want to move in to intermediate or Solo you will need to show car control and show that you can drive the line. Passing is allowed in certain areas.

Just meet your instructor as early as possible on the grid, explain the mods to your car, your experience level, then use the slow speed laps and no helmet to your advantage to discuss the proper lines. May actually work out better for you in the long run unless the CDIs want some laps at speed before moving you up in order to confirm your experience. Sometime though, if placement in Green is completely unjustified, they may also let you run the next Blue session right away.

Dave (Maranellowoman) will treat you right.

Thanks, man. Spot-on.

Ted, I see you have 4 previous DE's, none at this track. What Scott says may well happen. We have plenty of room in the Intermediate (Blue) group, if you are ready to move up. But the first Saturday session, w/o helmets, at moderate street speeds, with no passing, is a GREAT way to learn the track with input from an experienced instructor. After that, with helmet, you can apply your skills to the course.

What may, in fact, happen is that you get moved up to Blue, with an instructor, by Saturday afternoon, with an opportunity to solo on Sunday. But let's just play it by ear. As Scott says, we will treat you right...but we will not advance you before you are ready.

This track can really catch you out. The new section is VERY busy, and leaves no margin for error (versus the old section, which was probably the safest course in the country). Combined with inexperience & extreme heat, and we (the instructor corps) are not gonna leave anything--namely YOUR SAFETY--to chance.

Driving on track is inherently dangerous and caution should always be exercised. If we must change our rules for the new track then the rules weren't tough enough for the old track. See what I'm trying to say?

Always up to CDI discretion. Old course = safe for beginners; new course = much less safe for beginners

Also, PCA did the same thing when the new course opened.

Jmitro, come ask for me (tall skinny dude named Dave) and I will either ride with you or have another instructor who races ride with you, if you are interested in racing. We will have a bunch this weekend--SRiley, Sean, Dave Rierson, Raj, Joe.

And yes, Bruce (gobuffs) knows me well. I am the undisputed master of pimping drives of others' cars. Ain't never taken anyone's car off track yet!!

Ah, no there are closer hotels for sure. If you go south on 20 up to hulen/Bryant Irvin there are a few places Hampton, Amerisuites, holiday inn express, ect. If you go North on 20 a couple of exits down there is a fairly new Best Western as well.

The Hampton down the street from the Green Oaks is the one I used to work at.
