What must they be paying him to pull him from F1.

I'm willing to bet they aren't paying him very much at all. Rumor had it that JPM would be driving cheaply or even free in F1 next year. JPM's take is that he would rather drive every week than once a month. Also, he says all NASCAR venues are within a 3 hour flight of Miami (where he lives) versus F1 where you fly all over the world.

He gave plenty of good reasons to switch. I can see someone wanting to get out of F1 given all the politics, assuming they can swallow the pay/prestige cut.

I heard a redneck on Windtunnel (SpeedTV call in opinion show) last night. He basically said something like 'All the fureigners are taking over. Nascar is an American sport..before you know it there won't be any Americans left'.

Then he said he had to go, he was late for a cross burning or something.

Actually he had no where to go in F1. He missed his chance and never proved to be a top level driver. He did not have a seat a Mc. anymore and there were no good seats open anywhere else. He would have been with a 2nd rate team with little chance of winning.

Nascar was the only series that could still pay decent compared to his other choice of no money Cart/IRL and he had a good working relationship with his old boss who is strong in Nascar. I know some folks on the team and while they are not on the same level as the front runners, they are not far behind and plan on pushing hard to get up to the front runners. He might do well but he needs an attitude check and I am sure he will get it running with the cup guys.
